Kate —
I won’t be on the forum until the afternoon, so I’ll give you this thought to ponder in my absence. From all that you wrote about misogyny, 400 years of white male domination, etc., I think you have an image in your mind that these repented one-time Trump voters whom you so readily damn to perpetual guilt of racism are ignorant, old, white males. I would be very surprised if the largest subgroup of these switchers away from Trump were not white women — I think by far the largest subgroup. I say this because this is a group seen as in play and a Dem focus for 2020 and because I have seen polls suggesting Trump is doing worse among white women, quite a lot worse. He’s also doing worse among white seniors, who aren’t anxious to die to save the economy. They are likely the second largest subgroup. I’m just going to guess that his slight dimunition in evangelical support is from young evangelicals, who trusted their pastors and parents in 2016 and have since learned better. I don’t hold out a lot of hope for the frustrated Bernie voters who didn’t vote Hillary coming back to the fold. Many of them, judging from their message board comments are big misogynists and they won’t be happy with a woman as V.P., knowing that Biden is at best a one full-termer. I also don’t see many upper middle-aged white males changing their political stripes away from Trump.CanadaGooseJune 9, 2020 at 12:46 am #888381Kate, I understand you’re upset but I am shocked you would reply to someone threatening suicide with “shit or get off the pot.” That is disgusting and utterly unbecoming of someone who says they care so much about others’ lives. I know someone who talked about killing themselves for quite awhile. He was mocked for being all talk and no action. So he hanged himself.
Ron, I don’t care who they are. I’ve had plenty to say about white women too.
Two separate but related points: 1) the racist men or women who put Trump in power and now realized they’re not better off, 2) The justifiable anger from people of color who’ve been under the thumb of white men in power for 400 years.
We’ve already violated the forum rules by repeating ourselves too much, and you acknowledged that you can’t change my mind, so not sure why you’re still asking me to “ponder” things that have already been covered.
I have meetings today and need to be present for people who matter, like my boss and family, so I’m not going to be pondering your arguments.
As to Mark, I empathize with his suicidal impulses, as I’ve told him many times, and I hope he gets the help he needs and hangs in there. I do think the majority of Americans are good and we’ll see progress again.
LisforLeslieJune 9, 2020 at 6:21 am #888404In it’s own weird way Corona may be the only thing that turns the election left. Older white folks who voted for Trump were doing phenomenally until the market went belly up. Even now, they still think Trump is going to turn this around. That’s why he’s desperate to restart the economy. The protests disrupt that plan. We know that he’s a racist, but he cares about this for two reasons and only two reasons – protests make him look like he can’t lead – he’s not in control and protests keep the market unstable.
Older white Trump voters marginally care about police brutality but they really care about their portfolios.
The stock market has recovered all the year’s losses, but it’s going to fall again. I think some older people have realized also that Trump gives no fucks if they die, and in fact would like them to die for the sake of the economy. I think that’s turning some of them around.
FyodorJune 9, 2020 at 8:13 am #888411During all of this the president has lost almost no ground among men. Virtually all of his losses have been among women. Some f*ckwd up sh*t there.

June 9, 2020 at 10:20 am #888426So. um.
Just got word back that daycare is planning to open in July which is good. Whats not good is that they are now having reduced hours for 90 days (!?!?!). 8 to 4:30. Which works for no one. Especially if you have to go into work as I do.
But, we’ll figure out. Will try to do one night extra long in the office and have Radiostar go home early.. then switch off. Just trying to get my 40 or so.
