Starting to get some symptoms – sore throat, slight fever of 99.7, aches and pains, weakness, shortness of breath. All just within the last few homes. I had a flu shot, so I don’t think it’s the flu. We have been isolated for over a week except for a couple food deliveries. I’m a little scared, because I have pre-diabetes. My doctor was having me exercise to control my blood sugar rather than controlling it with medication. My primary care Dr is closed, and their answering machine told to call a coronavirus hotline outside of hours, which I did. The person I spoke to on the hotline asked if I had been exposed to anyone who was out of the country (as if it isn’t already all over the US) and asked about symptoms. She first said that with my current symptoms to wait till morning and make an appointment with primary care. Till I told them about the prediabetes at which point she said to go to urgent care or the er if it gets a lot worse during the night. I’m going to see how tonight goes and update tomorrow. I’m so glad I’ve been staying in sanitizing as if I and everyone else may be carrying it, so that hopefully I’ve minimized spreading this while I was asymptomatic. My husband has probably been exposed, but he’s only been sick once for 3 days in the 13 years we’ve been together, so it will likely be mild for him.

You can get the flu even if you’ve had the vaccine. I had the flu twice this year, and had the vaccine. The vaccine just helps you not die from it.

Not to say that’s the flu, sounds like the ER is a good idea.

Around here, the doctors and hospitals do NOT want people to go to the ER with symptoms like this. The advice is to call your doctor or the hospital. Likely they will arrange for an off-site coronavirus test, if your area has sufficient tests and supplies available.

Yes, you certainly can get the flu with a flu shot. I got my flu shot in November and came down with Influenza Type A 3 weeks ago. It is a guess what flue strains to include when each season’s flu vaccine is created and there is a long lead time to manufacture the vaccines, so some years they guess right and the vaccine provide a lot of protection, some times they guess wrong and the vaccine largely just reduces the severity of the flu for many.

I left the house today to go to the grocery store (while my puppies were getting spayed) and get takeout from a local bakery that’s struggling to stay afloat. I also got my bangs trimmed and eyebrows waxed before NC goes into the same shutdown as CA, PA, and other states. Just today I noticed more white hairs in my red head…ugh. Thankfully my stylist says she’ll come to my house if they shut everything down. I was very careful and washed my hands, didn’t touch my face, and used sanitizing wipes at the store.

I really, really can’t get it. I hate feeling so scared all the time. It sounds godawful. Helen, I hope your husband recovers very quickly and I’m so sorry that’s happening to him.

If you really really can’t get it then you need to stop doing all those things. Don’t have people over, even if you have grey. Stay in.

Yeah. Just… stay home. Look, I am not that afraid of getting it — no underlying conditions here, whew! – but I am way, way more self isolating. It boggles my mind how many people are literally risking their lives over fucking hair…

    It’s like, seriously?

Not in the medical field but my god people – stay the fuck home if you can.
@LadyE – look, I get it, my eyebrows are my best feature but will you care if you have a tube shoved down your throat because you are in the ICU? No.

We are all susceptible to this. And yes, those with compromised systems are more vulnerable. But some people, with no prior health issues, are destroyed by this disease. A family in NJ just lost three people, two who are middle aged in one week. A friend in the FBI told me that there was a patient who went from feeling icky to dead in 12 hours. Let me repeat that: Twelve. Fucking. Hours.

It is highly likely that if you get sick, you will feel poorly for 10 -15 days. It is unlikely that you will die. But are you willing to take that chance? Are you willing to take the chance that you could be one of those people who may be more sensitive to whatever this disease is and you need a hospital bed and there are none to spare?

People are contagious before they show symptoms. That’s why this is spreading the way it is. If you don’t have to be in close contact with people – do not be in close contact with people.

Four people in that family died. First a daughter and a son, then the mother, and most recently another son. The kids were in their fifties.

I went out for essentials- food and medicine. Now we have very strict orders to stay home unless we need food or medicine.

Our governor just ordered all hair salons, barbers, nail salons, and tattoo parlors to close effective tomorrow. ‘Bout damn time.

Our Mayor held a press conference last night. I was for sure she was going to issue a shelter in place order. She didn’t. I was surprised and a little mad. IL cases are increasing pretty fast. For three days, we’ve had 120+ new cases each day. Every day at 3 pm, the governor updates the count.

My salon closed down a couple of days ago without a shelter in place in effect. They did the right thing. The smart thing.

The husband and I only go out for essentials too. CVS and the grocery store. And that’s only if we need something. We also go on a couple of walks during the day for some light exercise and my lower back issues.

We will go to my sisters in the suburbs next week, provided neither one of us are feeling bad. She’s having a baby (C-section on Tues, her first was 10+ lbs and didn’t want to come out, at all) and my mom needs help taking care of my nephew while they’re at the hospital.

They usually keep C-section patients in the hospital for three to four days (here anyway). They told my sister at her check up yesterday that she might get out in two. Maybe three. Because of the virus, they want her out of there ASAP.

All non life sustaining business have been ordered to close here by the governor. I’m expecting a total lockdown anyway, although what that is beyond where we are right now, I don’t know.

I’m sickened by the insider trading allegations. And the government stockpiling and outbidding for supplies. What the fuck?!?!

The entire state of California is on lock down. I can’t imagine what this is doing to people economically.
