Yeah I take it, for RA though not corona. It’s also used for Lupus, a lot of people rely on it for some pretty serious conditions and the idiot in charge over there just nuked the world supply chain without a second thought. Even over here in Aus we couldn’t get it for weeks thanks to Trump. Scibabe, Yvette d’Entremont, did a really good post about actual effective drugs and where the hype for HCQ came from I think within the last day or so. Quite eye opening.
July 30, 2020 at 5:34 pm #914138Wow, I’m so sorry. I hope you start to feel better soon!
It’s been a long road for me, and luckily didn’t kick off autoimmune issues (knock on wood) but I’ve had fatigue issues, and now asthma. And I also got some weird routine bloodwork results so I have to go back in in a few weeks. Fingers crossed it was just a blip.
My SIL’s uncle is in the hospital on a ventilator. He was bored so he went to Florida months ago so he could eat out at restaurants and she wanted to get her nails done. She got it first with minor symptoms and they believe in 45’s hoax so they didn’t take any precautions at all. And he’s now on his second week in the hospital. No one can visit him.
@Ange if you don’t mind, can you tell me what RA is like to live with? The doc thinks that’s actually what I have. Just cant get xrays and the rest of the required stuff to confirm yet. I’ve been making myself even more stressed recalling what it was like for older folks I knew 20 years ago. Probably being overly dramatic and feeling sorry for myself.
@Anonmousse – I hope the bloodwork comes back clean. Did you have asthma before? the fatigue is unrelenting isnt it? I cannot believe how tired I am all the time.
I had a very unkind thought re: Herman Cain. The first thing I thought was he died for his beliefs. And then I was ashamed of myself because I don’t want to be that person, no matter how bitter I am currently.
July 30, 2020 at 7:40 pm #914375Alafair, I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling with this. I have days, like yesterday, when it feels like my body just can’t wake up. I feel heavy and sluggish all day. Buy that’s maybe once every few weeks and not all the time. I already had auto-immune issues – supposedly that makes you a little more at risk – and haven’t noticed any long-lasting issues. My eczema was really bad when I was sick in April and since maybe mid-may, it’s been almost completely cleared up.
LisforLeslieJuly 30, 2020 at 8:27 pm #914462@alafair don’t be hard on yourself for your thoughts. It’s not like you forced Cain to go to Tulsa, not wear a mask and not socially distance.
Unless you did and you’re just not telling us that you have super secret powers. And if you do have those powers, can I hire you for some super special secret work?
Today I thought that the best thing to happen wouldn’t be in The Tangerine Idi Amin got Covid and died – it would be if IVANKA did.

I must admit it’s not that much fun. I take several medications twice a day and give myself an injection weekly on top of that. My one solace from all of it though is that my grandfather had it in the days before methotrexate really became a thing and he had to take medication that made his skin so paper thin he had to get skin grafts monthly and he was still crippled. He died in 1997 still in his 60s. These days we’re not in that boat, treatments are so much better.
My problem is I wasn’t enough of an advocate for myself. I’ve had some shitty rheumatologists who weren’t aggressive enough with it early on so I’m paying for it now. If you end up with it don’t be afraid to push for the type of treatment you want.

FyodorAugust 3, 2020 at 11:10 am #924143Even if there’s regulatory approval in October, there isn’t going to be any kind of mass availability. I think the theoretical maximum dose commitments from the manufacturers for the US market is 300m doses (enough for 150m people getting the required shot and booster) by January 2021. And even that depends on all of the four earliest candidates (Oxford, Moderna, J&J, and Novavax) all working and all meeting extremely ambitious production goals.
In terms of approval/safety, I wouldn’t rely on the fact that the FDA has approved it, but there are some fairly rigorous reporting requirements especially if they want to sell it in other countries. So you’ll have some ability to read about adverse events ,efficacy, and get third party input about whether its safe.
Miss MJAugust 3, 2020 at 11:51 am #924226Yeah, I’d trust a vaccine if Canada/Europe/Australia/NZ, etc. deem it safe and Fauci vouches for it, but I would not rely on safety proclamations by the current CDC or Trump Admin (or Birx, for that matter). That said, since the run-up to getting a vaccine widely available looks likely to be November to January, meaning under Trump’s watch, I’m expecting it to be another Jared Special Shitshow.
