Ha – I like her recipes!
By the way, I block Russia and Ukrainian IPs from accessing this site. It’s very easy to do. It’s also very easy to moderate comments and delete the pro-trump crap. Not sure why bloggers who consider themselves progressive wouldn’t do this. The pageviews are not worth giving a platform to those voices.
BittergaymarkAugust 17, 2020 at 4:34 pm #961074The Dems REALLY need to learn how to pick exciting Presidential And Vice Presidential candidates.
They’ve fucking had ONE in my whole adult life. One. Obama. Oh, and look he won.
Bah. The whole thing is so depressing. Between this and hitting 50 in October, I am really not sure I even wanna stick around much longer. Everything… EVERYTHING is fucking shit.
Miss MJAugust 17, 2020 at 5:10 pm #961076Oddly, I’ve been seeing conservative folks parroting the “I’d rather have neither” line, either in person or on FB in the last week or so. I think there are probably bots driving a lot of it. As for the rest, I keep reminding real people that there is no “Door Number Three” here. It’s the current shitshow or people Who are at least going to do what they believe is the best thing to fix it.
AngeAugust 17, 2020 at 7:32 pm #961081I genuinely don’t think all that QAnon crap that is infesting the internet is helping either. It’s extremely coordinated and it’s absolutely exploded. Even my Letterkenny fan group got infested with it the other day, a bloody TV show fan page. Interestingly enough they all posted a bunch of anti-Biden memes about his misdeeds but the second you pointed out that Trump hadn’t kept his eyes or his hands to himself they either ignored or dismissed it. I think whatever is happening is not only anti-mask but it’s a coordinated right wing disinformation campaign in support of Trump.
August 17, 2020 at 11:28 pm #961087@BGM I feel you. It’s very hard to imagine 4 or more years of this. I definitely feel a big urge to “not live on this planet anymore”. I’m fine – I’m not going to do anything. But damn, I hate being alive right now.
The only comfort I feel sometimes is I look at people who have left just absolutely devastated regions and lives and built themselves up. I think “if they can get past that, I should be able to handle this.”
My biggest mental health trap has always been “big evil thinking”. When I look at the immense cruelty that occurs on such a large level, I get stuck in a really negative thought loop that takes me to really, really dark places. I have to be careful to not indulge it too much and everything I’ve learned in therapy has really been put to the test this year.
HelenAugust 23, 2020 at 5:48 am #961387Has CV or the post office kerfuffle changed how you’re going to vote in the presidential election? Has anyone been effected by the mail slow down? I’m going to vote early in person. In the past I’ve always voted on election day. I’m in the boonies so I’m not expecting crowds. I wish there was an app that matched people who need a ride to the polls with people willing to transport. I’d make daily trips! If they’re voting against trump obviously.
August 23, 2020 at 9:15 am #961397I voted by mail for years in WA state and voted by mail in the primaries this year. We drove close by to the county voting commission office and dropped off our ballots.
I’ll probably do that again.
ronAugust 23, 2020 at 1:10 pm #961408We don’t have early in-person voting. We will vote as early as we can by mail, possibly drop off in county’s box beside the county admin building.
Here in PA, our local, highly graded by Nate Silver 538, pollster Chris Borick now shows Biden’s lead over Trump at only 49% – 45%. It is scary that Biden is below 50%. This isn’t necessarily slippage by Biden, since this is one of the first polls based on likely voters, prior PA polls I have seen were based on registered voters, although I may have missed one.
At least it says we have a decent shot in a state which Trump won last time around.
For BGM: I find Kamala Harris to be an exciting candidate who should campaign strongly. Biden tends to dullness, although his convention speech was sharp. I look at what he has a chance to accomplish. As Bernie said, because of the moment we find ourselves in, Biden could be the most progressive president since FDR. I agree with that. It’s what our time calls for.
