That’s scary that she could get it without having really been out and about. I hope she has a quick recovery.
I was just on a zoom with someone who has it. Why she’s working rn, I don’t know. She said she took a few days off last week. She’s around 50, early 50s, and her case sounded relatively ok, like a flu. No difficulty breathing.
VathenaDecember 7, 2020 at 12:40 pm #968950I’m so sorry, Fyodor – I share your frustration that people can be doing everything right and still somehow get it, while others blithely go to f*cking destination weddings and 50-person Thanksgiving gatherings and somehow don’t. We had a similar situation in September when my daughter tested positive. NO IDEA where it came from. The few kids she’d been allowed to sporadically play with (outdoors, mostly masked) got tested and were negative. Their parents all tested and were negative. My husband and I tested a bunch of times and never got it. I am still not sure it wasn’t a false positive (it was a rapid test, and her symptoms were very mild). We didn’t end up doing antibody testing because we wouldn’t have changed our behavior anyway, and it didn’t seem worth the potential exposure to do the blood draw!
One thing about following all the rules is that it seems that people who receive a smaller viral load to start with end up with milder cases. I think I remember I read that on the internet, so it must be true. Sending good vibes to your family!!
LisforLeslieDecember 7, 2020 at 1:03 pm #968960Man, that totally sucks! The likely scenario is that she touched something with active virus and then touched her face. Remember when we had all the stats about how long it can survive on metal, plastic, paper? You did everything right, but when we were told it was airborne, we reduced focus on touch transmission.
In industry news – J&J has 28K patients in their single dose trial and expect final Phase III data in mid-January. Remember, all other vaccines are 2 doses spread across 3 weeks. I’ve not seen any info on what happens if someone misses their second dose and when do they have to start over.
UK is supposed to start giving patients the vaccine this week.
HelenDecember 7, 2020 at 1:25 pm #968968Sorry about your wife fyodor! She probably has a mild case because she’s been so careful. Its dose dependant. I had an infected 2 & 5 year old to care for so I think that’s why I got so sick for so long. Can’t exactly isolate from a toddler. Keep us updated. I hope you and your child stay healthy!
December 7, 2020 at 1:42 pm #968975I’m so sorry, Fyodor! I’m glad, at least, that she has a mild case. I hope she recovers really quickly!! Also that is so frustrating that you have been so good about staying away from people and yet somehow she caught it. It just makes so sense. The vaccine can’t come fast enough.
Also wishing BoF a speedy recovery and no lingering symptoms. I share in everyone’s frustration that there are some people are living their lives as if COVID isn’t real with seemingly no consequences, while there are some who have tried their absolute best and still get sick. This is the second instance I’ve heard of today where someone who has really been hunkering down has contracted COVID, which is scary!
Miss MJDecember 7, 2020 at 4:32 pm #969017So sorry to hear that, Fyodor! I hope she makes a full recovery. My brother had hoped that they could all get through his son’s run with it without getting sick, but he (my brother) has now tested positive. He’s not feeling too bad, but this thing is the (unwanted) gift that keeps on giving.
Meanwhile, I have neighbors who go out to eat every other night (indoors), traveled for Thanksgiving, go shopping (indoors), barely wear masks at all and they’ve been fine this entire time. It’s infuriating!
December 7, 2020 at 7:11 pm #969062My daughter’s mother (whom I share 50% custody) just tested positive. Only mild symptoms so far but crappity crap. This sucks. We might have been exposed over here – can’t say for sure when exactly she caught it. Got my first test tomorrow.
FyodorDecember 7, 2020 at 9:28 pm #969106I just tested positive. I am currently feeling fine (other than terror and anxiety). PCR tests are super sensitive. so possible that I had COVID symptoms last week when I was feeling headachey and nauseous. Possible also that I just got it from the Bride and I am about to get sick. The future is full of exciting possibilities. We are waiting for results for the Spawn.
