From the brilliance of others on the internet: We should expect a baby boom and that 2033 will be the onset of the Quaranteens.
They have stopped tennis and golf (although not sure why they stopped golf they had removed all of the rakes, allowed one person per cart and all tee times are done online/phone). I told my mom I’m sorry her world got smaller.
It hasn’t really hit here – two people in the community have it and some of the folks can’t deal with the isolation so we’ll see how this plays out.
Still, I’m getting a bit better at canasta.
HelenMarch 22, 2020 at 11:25 am #878226People aren’t getting it with the social distancing. After my husband went to the ER I had to fill his prescriptions. Only place that has our drug coverage info us Walmart and I couldn’t find our card. I couldn’t ask my high risk parents to fill it for us. I had to go in there. I danced like a crazy person trying to keep away from people. Some gave me weird looks. Doing this for you not me fuckers!! There’s a large immigration community here. Little more than half of the kids entering my son’s school are learning English. I hope the media they view are getting them the message. That’s mostly who kept getting close to me. I hoped they didn’t think I was jumping away from them because they were Mexican. I dropped the Rx and ran out of there without touching anything
I ended up just having a cold, and am already starting to feel better. My Dr. said my pre-diabetes is mild enough that I’m not at high risk if I do get coronavirus.
She also said the primary treatment at hospitals is respirators to provide oxygen and just treat symptoms. She said respirators are in short supply, and since I have a cpap machine to provide me with extra oxygen that if I catch coronavirus later I should stay home and use that and take Tylenol. My Dr. said a lot of people with colds and flus are coming in concerned that they may have a mild case of coronavirus. People are very anxious right now if they have any signs of illness. She’s getting virtual visits set up to help deal with the volume of patients.
She also mentioned that there basically are no tests now,and it is being frowned on if a doctor uses the few tests they have. She tested two first responders and the rest of her swabs were taken away – before the two she administered even got their results. This is crazy to me.
The schools by me have announced that they are not reconvening this school year. They are still giving out free school lunches to those who need them, there’s a pick up system to avoid more than 10 people congregating. Classes are all now online.
Starting Tuesday, the counties and cities around me are all issuing stay at home orders. Basically the rules are the same as what was suggested before, but now people who don’t follow them will be fined, charged with a misdemeanor, and have businesses shut down. The order is for 30 days. My doctor said most people will need to continue isolating for a couple months at least. My Husband and I have already been staying in and getting anything we need delivered for more than a week, and were going to continue anyway. There is also a temporary halt on evicting or cutting off utilities written into the shelter at home order so people can stay in place in good conditions even if they aren’t getting paid.
On another note, Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch just came out. It’s a cute game for all ages where you move to a deserted island. You can run around outside, catch bugs and fish, craft things, design your house and island, chat with funny animal neighbors, and visit your friend’s islands. More than a dozen of my friends and family got this. Yesterday my husband, his sister, brother and I all virtually visited each other’s islands together. This game follows real time and is made to be played a bit each day for months on end, so it is great for everyone who has to be cooped up. I bought a digital copy so I didn’t have to go to the store.
AngeMarch 22, 2020 at 4:24 pm #878240Australia is finally entering into proper lockdown mode, some states have closed their borders and non-citizens won’t be allowed in by plane. I’m anticipating all schools will be closed soon. There was a photo of Bondi Beach on the other day that showed it totally packed full of people so that spurred a lot of this on, selfish dickheads.
On the bright side non-essential travel has also been banned so my in laws aren’t coming for Easter most likely ?
I saw a similar video of a Florida beach packed with students on Spring Break. Honestly…

Sounds like testing in the US is a joke. Are other countries having this issue, or is it just us?BittergaymarkMarch 22, 2020 at 7:40 pm #878248Still in the California desert. Keeping busy. Plenty of rocks to move…
Okay… VERY silly. But… The strangest thing today? Uh, that ——after being gone from home since March 9th —- I just now realized I barely have even four days worth of clothes with me. I left home for what was to be a few days with the smallest totebag. Hey… I mean — No biggie. There’s a handy washer n drier here. It’s… Just… bizarre how i haven’t once thought about this the entire time.
It’s truly amazing bgm the small amount of clothes actually needed. When the husband and I went to Africa for two weeks, we only packed a 45 liter backpack with clothes, shoes and toiletries. We had smaller packs for camera gear, binoculars, chargers and tablet/kindle.
I remember coming home and the when leaving customs, the border patrol person was shocked all we had was carry on luggage. He commented on it.
That happened to me too when I went to Mexico last year. Carry on only. I was easily able to get an earlier flight home after security because of that.
It’s quite freeing, packing lite.
LisforLeslieMarch 23, 2020 at 5:48 am #878261Tests in the US are an absolute joke. Senator Rand Paul said that we shouldn’t be testing people who are asymptomatic and guess who is asymptomatic but just got tested? Him. And he’s positive for Covid and may have spread it to a bunch of congress in the gym and potentially all of the gym staff (no one remembers that they are there too in all the news reports).
In NYC one hospital said to their own staff “if you think you have it, call your own doctor to test you because we’re reserving our limited tests for patients”.
When hearing that hospitals are asking doctors and nurses to reuse masks – I realized, we are not living in a 1st world. These are 3rd world behaviors.
March 23, 2020 at 6:44 am #87826336 people died of the virus in NYC yesterday. And this is still just the tip of the iceberg. Italy is up to 800 a day. And trump is on twitter saying after a 15-day period (that we are halfway through) it will be time to go back to work because we can’t let the economy collapse in our attempt to save lives (hundreds of thousands of lives). The incompetence is mind-boggling.
