From the studies I have read people with prior infection they get their big immune boost from the first shot with the second shot having a pretty minimal effect*. The Bride of Fyodor also had a much milder reaction to the second shot. On the other hand my dad (also previously infected) had a stronger reaction to the second shot so who knows?

*France has switched to a one shot protocol for previously infected vaccine recipients.

We got the J&J last Tuesday while we were in my hometown. The appointments were plentiful. Apparently, we heard lots of people were either driving or flying down from Chicago because news got out about the availability of the one shot vaccine there. It’s about 5 hours SW of Chicago.

My sister, the husband and I all had side effects starting about 7 hours after.

She had a pretty consistent headache for about 24 hours.

The husband had the chills and whole body shakes for about 24 hours and then a slight headache for another 8 or so.

I had the full gamut. Exhaustion the entire time. Chills/body shakes for a couple of hours. Headache. Consistent nausea. Mine was about 24 hours total.

None of us had a fever but felt hot for a lot of the time.

After reading a whole bunch of articles, the husband is convinced we had Covid earlier this year because we had such a strong reaction. I guess for the same reason people react stronger when they get the second shot. The body knows to fight it. We’ll never really know if we had it though.

So happy to be vaccinated and not have to fight the wait times here.

    Congrats!

Yeah, I don’t think I ever had the virus. I had a bad cough for a while circa Feb 2020 but that’s not uncommon. And haven’t felt sick since then. And literally nothing from this shot, though I suppose it could still kick in.

*just remembered I did have a bit of a cough in December and had a negative Covid test.

    * Covid at some point in the last year, not calendar year.

But we really don’t know. If we had it, we were asymptomatic. We locked down pretty quickly, but prior to lockdown the husband was traveling weekly for work.

PS I’m definitely not mentioning to anyone irl that I got vaccinated. Vaccine jealousy is real, plus my boss doesn’t need to know yet ?

My sister had said that she wasn’t going to get vaccinated. But she needs to travel out of state next week, so she just got the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine yesterday so she’s got protection for the trip. I am so thrilled and relieved. I really thought my sis would never get vaccinated.

She still needs to be careful! They say it takes two weeks for the vaccine to be fully effective.

Yeah, Kate. I think if I got the vaccine I would keep that under my hat a bit as well. People are simply too crazy about it right now. Like wacky with rage crazy about who gets it.

I need to get vaccinated asap. The last 3 times I took my kids to ride bikes in the cul da sac there was a kid with a known case of covid just hanging out playing with the other kids! 2 separate neighbors warned me because they knew I had a bad case last year. Three symptomatic kids from one family (mom is a RN) playing with other kids with no mask on. Blows me away. My kids didn’t walk out the front door for 8 fucking weeks when we were sick. And they can’t tolerate their kids inside for a few days. One was a teenager who I could hear going to work at Starbucks every day. He doesn’t have a muffler. I’ll make a separate post on how selfish and rage inducing that is. You’re either part of the solution or you’re the problem. JFC life must be so easy when you’re that selfish. Zero rules, zero inhibitions, zero fucks. I wish I believed in karma

My mom is pushing me to jump the line. Now that everyone she knows is vaccinated, she wants to return to normal and I’m the barrier. I’m in Florida until Passover, so only a couple of weeks here.

Anecdotally, the reaction to the second shot for moderna seems to be a little stronger than that of Pfizer. People have mentioned low grade fever, aches, chills and extreme fatigue while Pfizer is more general malaise and a bit of achiness. My mom said the top of her head hurt. Not a headache, just the top of her head.

You could try to get on a waiting list or go to a pharmacy at closing. That to me isn’t jumping the line because they need to use those unused doses. Jumping the line would be like lying and saying you smoke or something, right?

Or go with an elderly person to their appointment like I did? I told my neighbor I wasn’t going to say anything, just see if they offered me a dose. He asked for me, and the nurse asked if I was his daughter, which might have made a difference but I said no, just his neighbor, and she told me about their waiting list. I went downstairs and signed up for it while he was being observed.
