@kate, she just turned eleven (fifth grade) and I do not believe that she does. She has asked questions sometimes in response to things that she’s seen on TV that suggest that she doesn’t. We’ve offered to discuss it with her but she’s demurred and we don’t want to push it.She has sex education this year
FyodorOctober 25, 2021 at 12:34 pm #1099368If you want to be specific, we saw an episode of the Simpsons where someone walks in on people having sex (the scene itself was not graphic) and she asked what they were doing and I said having sex and offered to explain what it was and she said that she didn’t want to talk about it.
Ok, so I think she knows something then, otherwise she’d be like, yeah, what?
I remember when I was some very young age like preschool, my mom had a how babies are made talk with me, and then later a neighbor girl a little older than me told me stuff.
Genuinely curious, is the “how babies are made” talk not a thing anymore and kids just wait til Health class?
FyodorOctober 25, 2021 at 1:50 pm #1099370We have offered to discuss how babies are conceived with her a few times but she hasn’t wanted to. We will definitely discuss it with her in advance of health class but we’d ideally like to not push it on her until she’s comfortable.
Keep in mind that her social activity has been curtailed a lot during the last eighteen months so she maybe has not had as many opportunities to discuss this stuff with friends.
Miss MJOctober 25, 2021 at 4:48 pm #1099372My husband got J&J initially and got a Moderna booster. Very relieved for him.
Through a series of unique events, I ended up getting a full Moderna schedule 6 months after my initial J&J to ensure protection for my vaxxed but elderly and immune compromised mother while she stayed with me to recuperate after a hospital visit. (Long story short, the waning efficacy of the one shot J&J known and the need for a booster was obvious. Prior to the authorization, I didn’t want to risk my mother’s health and and my doctor said she wouldn’t recommend me for a J&J booster anyway whenever it was available on account of me being high risk for clots. She essentially said go get one of the mRNA ones without recommending it officially. To be able to show full covid vaxx status, I got the second one a month later.)
If anyone would care to vote for my dog in the school costume contest, I would greatly appreciate it. 3rd one from top, dressed as the Pope.

ETA they’re now having technical difficulties ?. Allegedly will be fixed tomorrow. Thank you to anyone who got a vote in.
October 25, 2021 at 6:42 pm #1099378A good book for kids in the 7-10 range (or even an 11-year-old who seems curious but does NOT want to discuss sex with her parents) is ‘Sex is a Funny Word.” Very inclusive, positive book that touches on sexual and gender identity and the ways we are different from and similar to each other.
Also, yeah, very annoyed the cdc is taking a week after the FDA meets to discuss kid vaccines. Zero sense of urgency for the kids who have put much of their childhoods on hold for 19+ months now.
