I became eligible a couple months ago bc of health issues and I got mine two weeks ago. I would’ve gotten it then regardless. I was especially worried about the kids bringing it home from school but I think covid will be prevalent enough this winter that really everyone should consider getting a booster at this point.
Since we got JJ, I think we’re eligible regardless. I don’t have any underlying conditions and I have a low BMI. We wanted to get it before our trip, but couldn’t find the time. Wasn’t sure if we’d need a day to recover. We’ll prob start looking for an apt when we get back.
Plus, if there’s availability, I have no problem getting a booster. If people aren’t taking appointments, I gladly will. Why let the stuff sit and wait? If it was hard to come by, I’d wait.
EDT: I think we’re going to try and get the JJ booster now and Moderna once we’re eligible.
I don’t have underlying conditions and have not given a booster much thought. I’m glad both of my parents have been able to get theirs. My dad got his before a trip we took to the Bay Area for his mom’s funeral, earlier than most because he’d participated in clinical trials and was vaccinated earlier than most (October 2020). I was very glad he was vaccinated before traveling. My sister does have underlying conditions and keeps putting off her booster. She’s brought up getting our boosters together and if it means she gets one, I’d get one. As with all things BMI, using BMI as a standard here seems stupid.
I think if your dentist is offering the booster, might as well take it, Kate. I started listening today’s Daily with Dr. Fauci and he said that the booster is not so much a bonus but part of the treatment.
My parents will be eligible next month once they hit the 6 month mark.
My fiancé’s family is having a holiday gathering at his uncle’s place. I think 40 people would go. I don’t know why I’m more ok with a 150 person wedding than this. Maybe it’s because I know for sure everyone was vaccinated at the wedding? I’m not sure if everyone on his side has been vaccinated; I think they are.
It is kind of stupid that right now we are still only allowed 25 people inside for private gatherings but no capacity for places where vaccines are mandated. I guess that’s point.
I also did sign up for a gym near where we moved. Again vaccines are required. I’m kind of excited. At my old gym only members who had personal training could use the TRX and kettle bells but here so long as there isn’t a class we can use them.
Right, BMI is stupid.
So the dentist didn’t ask me any questions about my potential conditions or eligibility, so I didn’t lie. Anyway, she gave me Pfizer… I had moderna before but she said you get a better response by mixing and matching. We’ll see how this goes. I have a cold anyway so might as well feel more like crap, who cares.
@hfantods Can your fiance ask about family vaccinations? My boyfriend’s aunt and uncle who will be hosting the holiday get-together, the husband is a dentist and the wife helps runs the business. They’ve been no-nonsense about COVID, motivated by both their personal/political beliefs and their source of livelihood. I’m glad they’re the ones hosting. Nobody’s vaccination status in my boyfriend’s family is a secret. Political alignment is all over the place in his family, but even those who think COVID is not a big deal — like his mom, who has said some of the dumbest stuff I’ve heard from anyone I personally know about it — are vaccinated. His stepdad is the only outlier, but he has not done so because of medical issues.
Also, we went to a concert maybe a week ago at a smaller indoor venue that is operating at reduced capacity and required proof of vaccination (the boyfriend’s cousin got turned away at the door because he forgot his card, had to run home to grab it and come back) and masks (required indoors here). It’s the first time we’ve done anything indoors like that and I felt okay with it. Though I will say, the boyfriend getting a breakthrough infection while we we barely did anything changed my feelings a bit about what I’m okay at this point.
My therapist went back to in-person sessions and I’m so glad. It was not great online.
VathenaNovember 12, 2021 at 12:18 pm #1100008In a return-to-the-physical-workspace town hall this week, the Clinical Director of the NHLBI (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) said that, with the data out of Israel and elsewhere showing the waning of immunity past 6 months, basically everyone should be getting a booster. In his opinion it’s only a matter of time before it’ll be officially recommended for all adults. For J&J recipients, he said everyone should be getting boosted for sure, with an mRNA vaccine (pre-print data indicate Moderna yields the greatest increase in antibody response, see point 5 here: https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/johnson-and-johnson-covid-booster?fbclid=IwAR223pvzEDVjQbnSA4mRV3GVcNwOcuzGmHRueK1gB6CFuWiwKSxcrk0W6p8 ). Between that and Fauci’s recommendation, in which he said that if we can reduce *infection* and not just severe illness, then we definitely should do that – I went ahead and got a booster several weeks ago despite not being eligible by CDC standards. I do kinda wish I’d waited an extra week to be able to mix a Moderna with my original Pfizer, but oh well! Whatever we can do to break chains of transmission, we should absolutely do. I’m stoked today because I was able to move my daughter’s 2nd dose appointment up by 3 days, so she’ll have it exactly 3 weeks after dose #1. Previously there weren’t any city clinic appointments available that day.
November 12, 2021 at 1:48 pm #1100010My husband and I both got our Moderna boosters through CVS with no preexisting conditions, bmi over 25 or any other issues.
Yup, I made my husband an appointment at CVS for a booster, and my mom got my brother an appointment for tonight at CVS. He would qualify based on BMI, and he also has a delivery job. My husband doesn’t have underlying conditions but does travel for work. Interestingly, Walgreens will make you answer questions when you’re signing up and will tell you you’re not eligible. CVS doesn’t.
