Sorry, Helen! Hope you all recover quickly.
Am I remembering right that you had long covid the first time? It seems like so many of us who got sick in March 2020 had symptoms that lingered and lingered. I had a bunch, but most cleared up by June, 2021. The last of the symptoms – lungs burning when I run, chronic insomnia, and an electric shock/ zapping in my leg (multiple times a day, every day) only finally cleared up in the past few weeks. I’ve been reading about others who were sick in march/April 2020 and it’s been stunning how many had symptoms that lasted for months and months. A friend of mine has to have part of her lung removed this summer after struggling for two years to regain her full lung capacity.
Anyway, I’m glad you and the kids have very mild cases this time!!

HelenMarch 9, 2022 at 8:16 am #1103188When I was sick in March 2020 I was bedridden for 7 weeks. It was awful. My O2 would drop to the low 80’s just walking to the bathroom. All my symptoms have cleared up, except I lost a lot of hair that’s not returning. This time around I can barely tell we’re sick. If my daughter wasn’t coughing I wouldn’t think to take a test. Extremely mild
I’m sorry Helen. Hope you all feel better soon.
Ontario is dropping mask mandates in a couple weeks right after the school March Break. Apparently this will include schools. For those of you in places without masks mandates, do you still wear masks? Just on eg public transit? Are other peoples wearing masks where you are?
In some cases there is definitely “mask theatre” where you are taking off your mask to eat anyway.
My company will likely be announcing our return to work plan by end of week. Upper management is meet about it today. I’d like a little notice of the plan in case my work pants no longer fit so that I can go buy a few work wardrobe staples, haha.
They lifted mask mandates here maybe two weeks ago and I actually haven’t really been anywhere yet to see how things are going. I’ve had a few medical appts and been on public transit a few times, but masks are required in those settings.
March 9, 2022 at 4:23 pm #1103223So the college where I work recently dropped masks mandates. And then cases went up 100 fold. Of course they did! I still wear one at my desk. And if it gets too crowded, I ask to leave.
Hardly anyone is wearing them out and about – grocery stores, etc. Doctor offices still require them and airlines – except they aren’t enforcing the correct way to wear one (at least not on the previous flight I was on three days ago). Multiple people on the plane were barley even wearing a mask (wearing it on their chin or below the nose). sigh…
My hair salon just made them optional because Boston removed indoor mask mandates. But my stylist had hers on and I wore mine too. It’s still required on the T and I intend to keep wearing it on transportation. At work it’s optional.
Interesting about that flight… all flights I’ve been on, the attendants were strict about making people wear their masks correctly, and waking them up if their mask slipped down.
So my company just sent out an email officially updating our mask policy to be optional for fully vaccinated staff. So, I was wrong there. The office I work out of, we share a floor with one of our sister companies (they have a separate office suite) and there are only nine of us. I’m not terribly concerned on that point, I just thought the rules would be more strict on account of our main office. This afternoon’s update says upper management is still discussing how to bring everyone back safely and in a hybrid manner, so still on the edge of my seat about returning.
I have yet to visit the grocery store since we lifted the mandates here at the end of February, but in my area of the city, people have generally be great about masking up… so I’m curious about the grocery store.
I take public transit sometimes, but not too often. It’s never been crowded when I’ve been on it. Well, I had an appointment on Monday evening so I was on the el at about 6:30 p.m. It was the busiest I’ve seen it in years, not quite standing room only. I took it as a sign many companies have brought people back in or are at least starting to.
March 10, 2022 at 1:02 pm #1103248It was a Frontier flight. I’ve flown them before and they were strict about it. However, we were also delayed 5 hours because the plane had to be fixed from a lighting strike. So, maybe by that point (it was late) everyone was just tired and ready to be at our destination.
No one at my hair salon wear masks anymore. I do though. I know my stylist is vaccinated but that doesn’t mean everyone he sees is!
LisforLeslieMarch 10, 2022 at 3:08 pm #1103249My local office just sent out message that the office is open, masks are not required and there are no capacity restrictions – but I’m now in Florida where rules are for losers.
I continue to wear masks when I go to the stores. At the grocery store I was surprised that at least 80% of people were still wearing masks.
My mom is now immunocompromised so I’m wondering if she’ll get another booster in April when she hits her next 6 month mark.
I overheard one of the partners saying we should follow the provincial guidelines at the office i.e. no masks. I understand that’s clear cut. I’m sort of ok with not requiring masks around the office. However we’ve been meeting clients throughout this and mentally I feel a lot better when the client and I wear masks in an enclosed space.
I don’t know. We’ve gone to restaurants where we eat without masks. Heck I am going ahead with our wedding in three months! Selfishly I hope the cases don’t go up in April and May again like last year and we lock down again.
