He went to Purdue University, so there are likely a lot of people from Indiana that I’m related to.
But I don’t think any of them would know it unless we gave this Navy project our DNA. When a letter comes asking for your DNA, it’s probably always a bad idea.
So maybe two or so months ago I posted about how a mid-level director was quitting right around when we’d be onboarding a new, higher-level director and wondering about the ripple effects. Since coming back to the office I’ve learned that the mid-level director was interested in the higher level role but did not get it, so she found a new job. Still unsure if she was intentionally pushed out, but it’s clear she felt that way. This department used to have four staff members, but a couple years ago someone quit and the role was never backfilled, then late 2020, another was laid off. So the department was down to two. Anyway, the mid-level director’s direct report put in his notice and this is his last week. That department is now down to one brand new director and we have our first in-person, larger scale event next week and this department is the backbone of it. So work is interesting right now and the next couple weeks at work are going to be long, I think. This level of hiring decisions happens way above me, which is fine, but from the outside looking in I’m perplexed.
It is curious @copa. Hopefully you aren’t too overburdened with those changes.
Hospitalizations and ICUs are on a downward trajectory still here. Fiancé and I decided to cancel/rescheduled our respective bach events. I’m skipping a networking event which sucks because I feel I haven’t seen others in my field for a while. He’s also not going to the office bbq tomorrow. 11 more days until the wedding…
My sister’s office had an overnight team building at a resort. Nobody wore a mask on the bus up and nobody was wearing indoors.
I don’t think they’re going to open up free PCR testing. Did they remove that in the States? I think you have to claim through your insurance?
I’m affected a little bit by these changes, but not as much as others. I inherited some work from the employee we laid off, so I do some work for the department even though it’s not my department or what I was hired to do. I don’t have much bandwidth left at this point. Taking on more has not come up, but I suppose it may, so my ears are pricked waiting for details on what rebuilding that department is going to look like. If anything, it’d be nice if I could punt the extra work back over to its rightful department.
Cases here were trending up, we’re in the “high risK” category for transmission right now. It’s not lost on me that we’re on the cusp of hosting a larger, in-person event while simultaneously on the receiving end of email reminders about the elevated risk and our policies. Our event will be a mix of indoor meetings and outdoor events. I’ll be masking up.
Last week we had our first large-scale work event since 2019. It was… weird. I was one few wearing a mask. I thought there would be more. I was pretty much in conference rooms with other people from 8-4 every day, followed by social/networking events, followed by a dinner. Super curious if any COVID cases are going to arise from it, which we may not know about for at least a few more days.
On the bright side, it was SO nice to see my coworkers who came up here from our HQ office for the event. I had a great time with them.
LisforLeslieJune 13, 2022 at 2:03 pm #1110338Cases are up in Florida – while most of the country is now able to get out of enclosed spaces, it’s hot and rainy here so everyone is moving back indoors. One of my mom’s friends tested positive the day after their weekly outing. Everyone in the group has tested and is negative so far. My mom was being a little bitchy about isolating – “I have to live my life!” and I keep telling her “Yes, you do. You’re an adult so I’m not going to tell you what to do, but it would be really bad if you went around giving people COVID.”
The woman is a die-hard Democrat but every so often her inner Karen peeks through.
That is so exciting!! Can’t wait for my nibbling to get vaccinated.
I think we are in the clear the our wedding wasn’t a super spreader event. I think everyone accepts the risk of going. We are also lucky in Ontario that our cases are stable.
I read an article that you want to time your booster to be right before the next wave so you get maximum benefits. Not sure how you would time it. Those under like 70 aren’t eligible for their second booster here.
@ktfran Yay! So exciting! And I’m sure a huge relief for the parents/family!
So we had a work conference about two weeks ago, 500+ people. We spent 3.5 days straight in conference rooms, basically, and in the evening there were social events. To my knowledge, nobody has gotten sick and I think there’d be chatter if we’d been a super spreader event. I wore a mask and did test myself several times in the week that followed.
One of my friends has COVID for the THIRD time right now. Omg. The first time, she and her husband got it at a small, family-only funeral for her aunt in late 2020. The second time, their infant caught it literally on his first day of daycare and she and her husband got it again. This time she’s not sure where it came from, she goes into the office once/week and otherwise mostly sees her family. She thinks maybe daycare again, but who really knows.
Murmurs of another wave starting here. Anecdotally I’m hearing of people getting it again. We only get weekly data now so it’s hard to gauge.
Somehow we have avoided it so far but I just don’t know how to anymore. More and more in person meetings with no masks. Most people in grocery stores aren’t wearing masks. And I get it but I just don’t know how we are going to flip the switch and start wearing them again.
