@Helen. Not far along at all. Have my first prenatal visit next week, but the nausea this time around is definitely worse than the first.

We are going to have a lot more cases, but the increase in testing, hospital bed capacity, therapies and hopefully antibody screening will help somewhat. I don’t think we’ll have large gatherings until a vaccine or proven therapy is out there, but I’ll take any little openings we can get.

@MG It’s okay to be overwhelmed! I’ve had some bad days that took me off guard, too… and I have things pretty good, all things considered! (Able to work remote, not a high risk individual, no kids, not expecting, etc.) So if you’re frustrated and upset that your team is letting you down, that’s understandable.

I’m expecting Chicago’s stay at home order to be extended.

I fully expect our stay at home to be extended too. Even if we were to open, I’d keep sheltering in place much like I am now. At least until I could get the antibody test and then make more informed decisions. If we open too fast, I suspect we’ll see a massive spike in cases. Especially if the weather is nice out, prime gathering time.

And all I really want to do is walk down to G&O, sit at the bar with our friendly bartenders, eat one of their delicious burgers and fries and enjoy an old fashioned. However, Twisted Spoke is now doing take out + a handful of their cocktails-premixed and bottled. I’m getting one tomorrow and I CAN’T WAIT. It’s the little things.

My dog grooming place was offering discounts to those of us who book our May appointments online now. I booked anyway even though I’m not convinced they’ll be allowed to open in May.

I’m pretty low maintenance but I really wish I could get a haircut. I was already overdue when we started shutting things down. Leading up to the shelter in place order I debated squeezing one in but opted against it. And it’s fine, obviously I’ll live, there are worse things than having hair that’s too long for your liking… but I still wish I could get one. (And a wax.)

A burger, fries, and an old fashioned sounds SO GOOD right now. Normally I’d be getting excited for the weather to stay consistently nice and patio season at this point. But this year… eh, I’m just glad my boyfriend has a backyard for us to grill out and enjoy drinks when the weather gets nicer. We’ll make do.

My sister’s birthday is on Monday. She’s bummed. I’m planning to bake her a cake and I’m sure we’ll do some kind of socially distanced celebration. I’m not a great or avid baker, but have had fun doing some baking during this time. So there’s that.

Every January, I set up my hair appointments for the year. Six weeks, religiously. Last Thursday would have been an apt. The next is a May 21st. I’m really, really hoping that sticks.

I’m also considering Venmoing my stylist from last week’s appointment (that was obvious canceled) so I’m close to the front of people who gets an appointment when they reopen.

EDT: I need to send money anyway since she’s not working right now.

What are everyone’s thoughts on this stimulus payment? I am employed in an “essential” industry and I am lucky and thankful to have this job. However, I received a stimulus check and I cannot wrap my head around why this money was sent to me instead of going to the people who have become unemployed due to COVID.

There are so many families with no income and very shaky futures who need this money to survive. Shouldn’t the gainfully employed be exempt from it? Maybe someone here can explain how the whole stimulus thing works so that I can understand this.

It’s based on your tax statement from last year. If you made over a certain amount, even if you don’t currently have a job, you are ineligible. It doesn’t “know” if you are employed or not.

@Copa and @ktfran: I know, I’m waiting for it to happen today or early next week once they figure everything out with the teachers union. Also. Another day of snow?

Congrats MG! It’ll be nice to have something, someone, to look forward to. Kids force you to remember that life goes on, no matter what.
Aside from the deadly tornadoes we had a few nights ago the weather has been fabulous here. Its the only break I feel like I’ve been given. That and my husband still being employed.
My lungs feel like they’re full of concrete. I feel like I did a week ago. Did anyone else relapse after they started to feel better?

The most important thing on the stimulus was getting as much money out as possible. Doing a real time means test for hundreds of millions of people would have been really problematic. If you have the means you can also donate it to a charitable cause.

Helen, I am told that relapses and backsliding are not unusual. Please monitor it carefully. Do you have a pulse oximeter?

Ugh, yeah. This weather blows. I’m hoping this is the last of it. My dog forces me to get outside even when I don’t want to and these late spring snowfalls are always annoying. This morning, though, I was happy even walking through the slush with the dog because the birds were singing. Decided to take my happiness cues form the birds today. 😉
