I assure you, where I’ve vacationed in the Ozarks looks nothing like the show. I wish they would recreate Osage Beach and the outlet mall / mini golf / bumper call gridlock strip of land that it is. Although, in season 3, Laura Linney’s character finally said Missoura!!! I was ecstatic.
My dad’s greatest joy is trout fishing, so I spent a lot of time camping in Bennet Springs (near Osage Beach) or staying at a cabin near Branson while growing up. I went back about 11 years ago with the fam. It hadn’t changed much.
HelenApril 26, 2020 at 4:28 pm #881551Ktfran you’re right, the background in Ozarks is stunning but not exactly the Ozarks. You mentioned mall and it reminded me of watching Stranger Things 2 and screaming at the TV “We’ve been to that mall!!” The pumpkin patch where they filmed the down under in season 1 gives family friendly tours during fall. Never thought my state would be home to something actually cool lol
LisforLeslieApril 27, 2020 at 6:46 am #881599Well we broke out the gel nail kit this weekend and for a first time foray – the results were not bad at all. My mother can now flash those fully filled nails when she walks with her group of friends colloquially known as “the herd”.
I want to thank the thousands of “how to backfill gel nail” youtube videos for my success.
In the meantime Florida has moved from “wow, it’s February and I’m in short sleeves” to “Hmmm, it’s kinda warm for March” to “Ugh, it’s so humid that I can feel the air”.
My aunt who’s in a nursing home has had her nails cut and filed twice since I last saw her in early March, but the old polish is still on. I’ve gotten VERY good at doing my nails in isolation, so I can fix her up when and if I’m ever allowed to see her again 🙁 They’re still only allowed to watch religious programming, no regular TV, but apparently there’s a really good episodic thing of the New Testament that they’ve been watching. And they saw a Zoom concert of kids doing musical performances. Plus she’s gotten some good “trashy” novels sent to her by friends. But she’s pretty freakin bored. The impact on long-term care facilities is pretty horrific. There’s a veterans home in MA where a lot of residents died. It seems their admins were more inclined to listen to what the POTUS was saying.
AnonymousApril 27, 2020 at 10:22 am #881609I’d love to have coffee, Helen. But it’s doubtful that my incredibly shitty career will ever take me to Georgia. Pretty much everything that shoots there is Union and I am forever trapped in the endless hell of non union shoots.
Speaking of which they want me to do yet another tv movie with a skeleton art dept. crew (me and ONE other person) and of course its NOT small from an art standpoint. Hell no, it’s a fucking wedding film for christ’s sake. And the money is seriously California minimum wage.
Funny, I’m always so in demand for only the most awful of gigs.
Honestly? The mere prospect of returning to my oh-so-shitty / dead end career has me seriously thinking this might simply be a good time to exit this plane of pointless existence via a handy single car crash or other deadly mishap.
In far too many ways, my life simply doesn’t work. At all. Never has. Never will.
And taking silly, pretty pictures of all the lovely cacti I’ve managed to grow out of nothing (for someone else) has been a great distraction. But it truly signifies nothing. More —- my time here in the desert has only maliciously illustrated a life that I myself will never truly have.
Yes… My work at this house is nearly finished. Soon even all the damn patio furniture will be painted. Looking around — everything is pretty fucking perfect. Yes, this desert retreat could be a very fitting, and triumphant final project. A nice, high note to go out on. I dunno. Not having a very good week here. Not at all.
AnonymousApril 27, 2020 at 11:04 am #881611Mark – have you considered a second career as a designer? Whatever isn’t working – is there something else you could pursue?
I know I’ve made stupid suggestions before – I just wish I knew how to help.
I hate when you’re down like this and it worries me.
AnonymousApril 27, 2020 at 11:36 am #881614Eh, I’ve run through so many careers at this point. Copywriter. Screenwriter. Comedian. Actor. Content Producer. Associate Producer. Researcher. Craft Service. Set Decorator. Art Director. Production Designer. Personal Assistant. Frankly — I’m all out of reinventions.
Sadly — There’s no real money in design.
Everybody just expects me to do it for free.I’m far too old to start over yet again. Reality check: Nobody ever becomes a success north of fifty. (Which looms now in October.) The longer I stick around — the more of a loser I become. It’s been all downhill since 25. Truly a long, awful slide.
Oh, well. It is what it is.
