They need to shut it down! I got people on fb at restaurants, going to work. My husband is really sick. He doesn’t get “man colds”. When he had the flu last year he didn’t take to the bed. He can’t get out of the bed. I’m pissed off that we were so careful and got stricken and these idiots can’t go a day without Mexican food. Don’t get me started about the kiddie places trying to lure people in with specials & deals

Helen so sorry you’re dealing with this. Internet hugs and support.

I run a university housing facility and just found out we may be closing, which means that I may lose my job AND my home. I just keep telling myself that even if we close they will need someone for a few more weeks to wrap things up. What a day.

Yeah, I was actually wondering if we’d be next. I’m well stocked and feel prepared — was already limiting my outings to essential errands — but would schlepp my haul to the boyfriend’s if we go on full lock-down. Will be a bit bummed if I can’t run as I was planning but my gym has been putting at-home workouts online and I’ll be fine.

Learned today that my company is able to continue paying all employees as usual, even if they are unable to work remote, and feel glad about that.

How awful PTL!! I feel really lucky in that even though we live paycheck to paycheck it isn’t super hard for us to remain home and collect income. I mostly stay home with the kids & my husband works from home with weekly travel. He also works for a Canadian company with generous benefits & PTO. This pandemic is going to have so many effects that go beyond illness. Everyone will be impacted

Canadian here, I received some info from acquaintances that work in the government, and despite some of the news from our PM and premiers at the provincial level of closing borders and restricting it to diplomats and necessary travel, there may be more stringent actions in place come tonight. Essentially closing the Canadian borders like Italy has done for 2 weeks or longer and only having essential services (ie pharmacies, grocery and healthcare) open to reinforce social distancing.

This is nuts. Been through H1N1, SARS, and this just boggles my mind that this is literally a historical event that will define us as a world, but also economically for years to come.

@Cleopatra30 I heard the same but many people around here are dismissing it as a rumour. I hope it’s true. It will trigger another round of panic buying, but it will have a huge impact on flattening the curve.

Today in Philadelphia all non essential businesses were shut down. I am guessing that it’s going to be at least a few months.

    What about barbers and hairdressers?

I think that barbers are closed too. I am actually in bad need of a haircut but had been hedging over safety.

Drew just ordered some clippers – I already have haircuttinv scissors – and I’ll be cutting my fam’s hair for a while. I got a haircut on Thursday, the last day I felt comfortable doing so.

Kate, you prob need to stop the blowouts and manicures now. But those places will be closed in days anyway. Trump needs to shut everything down bc as long as places remain open, people think it’s it’s safe to support those businesses (and why wouldn’t they, I guess, if they’re open and the gov’t hasn’t shut them down?). But it’s not safe anymore.

We are under mandatory shelter in place. Kids have been home for a week already and we are looking at at least 8 more weeks.

I’m blown away by all the people on social media screeching about quarantine be damned, they have the right to free association!

Like hey boomer, this isn’t an infringement on your rights it’s a matter of public health. Anyway, America is being crazy. I’m still waiting for our shut down here, so far there are only a few cases in my area but I imagine we’ll eventually get to that point. Schools are still open but a lot of events have been cancelled or postponed.
