@V33 your salon experience just gave me goosebumps…I leave in 30 min to get my hair done! But your story also gives me hope that wearing a mask will def help (they are required at the salon I’m going to). But I’m also immuno compromised so I’ve been wishy washy for weeks deciding to go or not. Ultimately I decided I’m going to go.
We’ve been under curfew because of protests here. I’ve been watching the local news about the protests and it doesn’t look like any of the protestors (or very few) wear masks. I’m hoping it doesn’t cause a surge in cases here. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it does.
Our fridge decided to go out this week. Had the repairman out today and hopefully it’s fixed. But it’s hot and we don’t have AC so keeping everything in coolers helped but still lost some items to spoilage. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays fixed!
Our salons here are open! At mine, it is by appointment only and I’m going this afternoon for a pedicure. I was on the fence about going initially because I’m still trying to be cautious as we reopen and keeping my outings more or less essential but… eh, I’d like a pedicure and I figure they could use the money and a generous tip. I walked by earlier and they seem pretty dead.
ETA: Meant to be more specific. Nail salons are open and I got an email from my wax place that they’re opening next week. I didn’t realize that other types of salons (anything outside of hair places, basically) were also included in our phase three, but it appears to be the case.
So I was upset on Tuesday when I walked by my nail salon and there was a “For Rent” sign in the window and a tarp covering the floor to ceiling glass storefront. When I walked by Wednesday, it was open. Instead of boarding up, it looks like they took that approach to discourage looters. I may make an appointment for next Friday.
As of today, there is a Hispanic deli I can no longer frequent. The owner stood out front talking negatively about Black Lives Matter and lots of horrible things. Ugh. Chicagoans, don’t ever go to Nini’s Deli. EVER. I believe there is video. I haven’t watched.
I felt bad for my stylist because she was IN TEARS when she called to tell me I’d been exposed. The stories about the Great Clips stylist (about two hours south of my town) were going around and she thought she’d get dragged in the local media even though she didn’t know she had it and didn’t know she’d exposed her customers until her mom found out she was positive.
I’m absolutely not letting my parents get their hair cut because they use my other friend who is a stylist and she REFUSES to wear a mask because it makes her claustrophobic. Masks were the only thing I think that prevented me getting sick so if she won’t wear one, my parents are not going to get their hair cut from her.
I haven’t FaceTimed with my mom in a couple weeks, but the last time we did was a high humidity day and you could tell her hair (she keeps it short) was starting to look mullet-ish. We laughed about it. Unsure if she’s gotten a hair cut yet, but she’s in a state that’s more open than we are here, so I assume it’s an option for her at this point. She might feel better waiting a bit. I know my dad is being cautious as they’ve reopened there (he loves eating out but doesn’t want to yet).
I skimmed it, and what I took away was the owner was potentially already problematic, then she tweeted about looting and doubled down on it when called out. Her employees would be highly unlikely to quit if she were a nice person who said one dumb thing. She was probably a jerk/lunatic and it was the last straw for these people.
Just got home from my pedicure. The whole experience felt fine, though they were already very sanitary IMO. Had me wash my hands as soon as I walked in. Masks required for everyone. Nail technicians wore gloves as usual, but they now have face guards and they put up plastic shields at manicure stations and at the front desk. They spaced patrons out. I asked my nail technician if they’d been busy and she said yes, but that she was happy to be back to work.
