The place I go to is currently by appointment only. I typically don’t bother making appointments, but right now, when I’m sure there are capacity limits, it makes sense. They have a sign outside asking patrons to please call to set up an appointment, but one woman heading in as I was leaving called while standing outside to make sure they could accommodate a walk-ins. If nothing else, asking people to call minimizes the amount of traffic in and out.
Another nail salon nearby seemed kinda crowded by comparison to mine, but I’m unsure what their policies are and my place was already spacious to begin with. They were relatively new to my area and with their store size and location there’s no way rent is cheap — I was expecting them to go under, tbh.
@Fyodor we have a long and storied history of reminding our pollies they aren’t any better than us: https://youtu.be/cEst7PHFZ7A
But at the same time we love it when they’re one of us. This is one of our former prime ministers at a cricket game. He held a beer skulling record for years: https://youtu.be/o5mBShX9fdU
Otherwise I saw the footage of that poor older man being shoved to the ground and the police just leaving him there, sickening. And the whole taskforce has stood down in protest of the suspension of the guys that did it?! The system is so horrifically broken.
Yeah, that video of the old man being shoved to the ground was so fucked up and hard to watch. Just WHY? I feel like I’d have lost my shit if I’d seen that in person. That’s the only recent story I think I’ve seen about an elderly person being attacked, but when stuff like that happens to old people I always think about my grandma.
The protest was in my neighborhood tonight. Thousands of people. Extremely peaceful. They did walk by the racist deli I mentioned earlier then turned onto my block. Police were walking silently besides them. Most people wore masks. Someone right below our condo had parked a car and was handing out bottled water and had hand sanitizer. The walkers were followed by a parade of cars.
There was another incident in MA I saw on Boston.com where the guy was 85 and a veteran and someone beat him up. He had a Trump banner, which, yeah, but it’s never ok to beat up the elderly. And a quarter of the COVID deaths (I’ve also seen 40% in a work newsletter but I heard a quarter on cnn) were in nursing homes. Anyway. I don’t want to distract from 400 years of systemic racism and brutality, but wtf America.
June 6, 2020 at 9:54 am #887993@kate, I looked at our retirement and other accounts and yea, it’s back to almost no-losses. Weird. I’m not mad about it.. just a bit puzzled.
Heading to Bridgeport today to do a little urban hiking at the old quarry. Probably head to a restaurant and bakery nearby to pick up provisions. Protest through Grant sometime today which depending on naptime can walk over to. I signed up for MBMHBC volunteering and trying to organize a group volunteer event for this fall for the sorority and alumnae groups.
