We’re experiencing false summer right now and OMG it’s glorious.
I’ve realized I think the biggest issue with my wardrobe is my lack of basics. I like colors and patterns, which is fine, but I’m really lacking in neutrals and basics at the moment. I think Nuuly can be the service to satisfy my desire to have some fun statement items. I have that one J. Crew coatigan that I feel like every influencer has in a camel color, I got it on Cyber Monday for a steep discount. Camel is one of my season-appropriate neutrals, so yay! I know there’s an Amazon dupe for it, too. I think that’ll be a good transitional layer going into spring.
I have a few blazers that I’ve been eyeing on Amazon but haven’t pulled the trigger on anything.
ETA: If anyone remembers the days of bauble necklaces like 10 years ago, I learned during my color analysis that my best pink is coral and as far as blue hues go, teals and turquoise are good options. I used to wear this one coral dress to work all the time and paired it with those awful statement necklaces in turquoise and thought I looked incredible. LOL. I’m sure I fit in with all the other basic Bs back then, but I think about some of the trends from years back that I was all about and cringe. I still have some of those necklaces, too.

I was actually going to ask if anyone had tried Quince! LOL. I’ve heard people like them, too, and was on the website this morning and they have machine washable silks in a lot of different styles.
I recently bought a pair of Mother jeans that are meant to be cropped, but a petite blogger I follow said they’re a great regular length for shorter women. They’re still kind of long on me and I’d need to tailor them if I kept them, but otherwise a good jean. Kinda pricey, though, even at the sale price I got. I’ve heard good things about Good American, too.
I’m like you, @Anonymousse. I don’t know that I ever would’ve figured out on my own that I’m on the neutral end of autumn. Part of the process with the stylist is finding your best colors within your season and I noticed that some of the colors I’m already really drawn to are considered my best, like deep teals. I also really like berry colors, but looks like I need to start narrowing in on deep purplish berry colors.
I did it through House of Colour! I went to the stylist in Lincoln Park, Beth, but she is in the process of moving out of her home studio and into a space above a boutique that happens to be right around the corner from me. Actually, the first time I heard about color analysis was through that boutique — I follow them on IG and they were offering sessions there one day at a discount. Turns out, it was the same stylist. I then kept seeing it on TikTok, and she confirmed that while she’s had fairly steady business for the few years she’s been doing this, she’s now so busy that she books out a month or two out. They also show you some makeup (to try to sell you on it), which I mostly wasn’t interested in, but I did end up buying one lipstick.
It was fun, though not sure worth the price tag. It was cool to see how the tone of a color can change your face. We noticed that my complexion looked noticeably smoother with the warm color swatches. I also learned I can pull of mustard yellow, which I’m weirdly excited about for when fall rolls around. Some of my gal pals are now interested in going, and I wish I’d thought to ask them beforehand because you can go in small groups of 2-3 to get a discount. I thought it seemed so frivolous and I’d asked my sister, who was kinda like, wtf, no.
Has anyone tried those thermal round brushes? I keep seeing them — specifically, the one by Amika — on social media and I’m curious, but I definitely don’t need any more hair tools. We’re in the process of doing some DIY updates to our guest bathroom — the boyfriend is installing shelving in a dead space and is almost done — so I’m planning to store my seldom used hair tools in there to free up space in the master bath. I should probably part with some of ’em since a lot are old. Like, purchased-in-college old. I think the only thing I’ve ever gotten rid of over the years is a triple barrel waver because I thought the results were ugly.
I think that sounds exciting, @Anonymousse! I grew up moving a lot and as an adult I crave new beginnings and always want to blow up my nice life for a dramatic fresh start (kinda hilarious now since it was kind of traumatizing as a kid to frequently be moving, adjusting to new norms/cultures, navigating a new school/curricula, making new friends, etc.). I’d be having a breakdown, too, though. Let us know what happens!
I think if you’re on the fence about the Dyson, try to find one to test out before you get it. It’s not cheap. I use mine regularly and think it’s a fun toy, but even then I’d probably still say it’s not worth the money. But hey, if it’s free with points that need to be used anyway… go for it!
Are those the TikTok videos where someone will go on about, like, soft romantics vs. theatrical romantics? If so, I find all of that confusing and boring and scroll past. I do like TikTok for fashion/styling advice, but I’ll look for users who are in a similar age range and who either have similar body type to mine or a similar body “concern” (e.g., petite friendly finds).
I use my Dyson quite a bit. I think there’s a newer model out than the one I bought. But I definitely don’t think it’s a must-have. It seems to work best for hair that can hold a curl.
From what I’ve read, winters have high contrast. I have medium brown hair, dark eyebrows, and lighter (hazel with a lot of green) eyes. The contrast doesn’t feel as stark as all the pics I see of celeb winters online (Megan Fox, Lauren Graham) because my eyes aren’t as bright. So I feel I’m high contrast but maybe not because of my eyes. And then when it’s summer, I can get pretty dark and my hair naturally lightens. I’m decidedly not high contrast in the summer. So maybe not a winter, I don’t really know! I can tell if I look a little washed out in a color, but it’d be nice to understand what to look for when I’m choosing clothes. Will report back — it’s not for another month.
