@TheLadyE I hope you feel better soon and make a full recovery! Don’t worry about work — focus on you and getting well again. I hope your mom stays well, too.
I’m honestly still pretty surprised I’ve managed to dodge COVID all this time. Every time I’ve had even the slightest symptom of anything, I test and always negative. I suppose it’s possible I had a totally asymptomatic case at some point, or that the tests were wrong. But I still remain a bit surprised that to have avoided it. I know people who have had multiple breakthrough cases.
Our AC is working again! Thank goodness. Tuesday and Wednesday nights were miserable trying to sleep in the heat. The dog kept trying to cool off on the bathroom tile. Last night I got in bed maybe five minutes before the boyfriend and was out like a light, didn’t even hear him hop in, and could’ve slept way longer this morning.
I saw Six with my sister a month or so ago. Loved it!! I went in only knowing it was about King Henry’s six wives, but not how the story would be told. It was so high energy and good. Pre-COVID my sister and some gal pals had Broadway season tickets. These friends moved away or scheduling is now too tricky. So I’ve been going with her to some shows lately as she finishes out her tickets from like 2019. We also saw Frozen this year and Moulin Rouge last week. I also loved Moulin Rouge and highly recommend that one. In 2020 we were planning to see Dear Evan Hansen for my her bday but obviously that didn’t happen so we’ll likely go this year and have a 36th bday redo for her.
My Frye sneakers arrived and I really like them! We’re having unseasonably hot weather here the past few days and when we went to turn on our AC for the first time this season, it wasn’t working. That was a few days ago, the AC guy is here now and has been for an hour and a half but things still aren’t working. I mention all of this only because I cannot tell if I should’ve sized up in this shoe because my feet are swollen from the heat, our place has been REALLY toasty since Tuesday.
I just got the somewhat boring (but versatile!) latte color… wanted a neutral. If I opt into a second pair, I’ll get one of the colors. I actually like quite a few of the colors!
@Ange Congrats! I’m really glad for you guys. I didn’t realize the housing market in other areas of the world is (or at least seems to be?) similar to what we’re experiencing here. It’s been absurd here. We happened to right as the market took a little dip leading up to the 2020 election and it happened in a way where the stars seemed to come into alignment for us, so it was drama-free, but we know so many people who offered tens of thousands over asking price who still got outbid! When’s the move?As someone who usually ends up having to travel for friends’ big events, I think it’s nice that you took her schedule into account/tried to minimize the amount of time/money she might have to spend to be there. A friend of mine once got kicked out of a bridal party because she couldn’t afford to go on some overseas bachelorette party. It’s too bad she can’t make it, though.
Oh man! So I think I forgot to update that the weekend we had our appt at Tiffany, I had a sore throat and we ended up canceling thinking it may have been COVID. I never tested positive, so it was some other seasonal ailment. He’s made comments that we should get that planned again but we haven’t bothered. Ha.
What/where is the plan for the bachelorette party? I think it’s nice for you to try to accommodate everyone’s schedules but don’t think you need to.
I like the braided sandal heels that are everywhere right now. I don’t own any and haven’t tried any on (my feet are very narrow and I struggle with any kind of slide/mule/sandal that doesn’t have an ankle strap), but I do like that style a lot.
Pulled the trigger on the M.Gemi shoes last night and they’ve already shipped. Was not expecting them to ship so quickly!
Oh, also vaguely dating related… meant to share this here but actually forgot!
If anyone remembers years back in this thread, my old neighbor that I had a fling with that I was upset about briefly. I haven’t seen him in like two years, not totally sure what happened to him. He’d added me on social media when we were friendly but eventually deleted me. Which is fine, but I knew from FB that he and his gf broke up and got back together quite a bit. He moved out of our old building not long before I did and I forgot he existed. ANYWAY, this past weekend, I was going to a friend’s place and was running way ahead of schedule, so I decided to walk through my old neighborhood to get there. I saw them from across the street, bombed and having a blast with friends, and she appeared to be wearing a sash. So I Googled his name quickly to confirm: they’re engaged. LOL. So good luck to them, they are hopefully past the point of quarterly break-ups and make-ups.

So I don’t think I’d wear flats with a cocktail dress unless I had to, but I don’t think I’d bat an eye if someone else did. I have bad feet and opt into comfort/support to not worsen the issues I have going on more and more. We have a conference next month that we are moving forward with next month and at least pre-COVID, there were two evenings that are dressier. I’m already thinking about sensible shoe options.
I keep a pair of pumps and a pair of flats under my desk. Both are still here and I used to change into them when I got into the office. The flats are comfortable enough but I’ve not really felt compelled to change out of my sneakers. The pair I have been commuting in have seen better days, though… so Frye sneakers will be a better looking, higher quality (I assume) version of what I’ve been wearing now. Also eyeing the M.Gemi driving moccasins that were recommended by (I think) @ktfran. I’d wear both styles outside of the office, too.
I think talking to the office manager is a good idea. When I got back into the office, some items were missing. Like a cord from my docking station, so while I await IT to get replacements, we have a workaround that allows me to use only one of my two monitors. This setup is still better than my work station at home, tbh, but I was really frustrated that someone removed something that wasn’t theirs. I also at first thought someone took my personal mug that I keep at the office (ended up finding it washed and put away with our company mugs in one of our kitchenettes), so I know I’d be annoyed if my coaster went missing, too. I could tell during some of our all staff Zoom calls that our office manager was using my office while we were FT remote and it irrationally irked me. She had the entire place to herself on days she came in and we have a few empty offices.
