@ktfran I’m sorry to hear about your BIL, but glad to hear he seems to be ok given the circumstances. I hope he makes a full recovery. The guy who got your BIL sick is a jerk… and I’d think that even if your BIL wasn’t going through this. While I have felt for a bit that it’s time to learn to live with COVID, I don’t understand why people can’t just stay home when they’re sick. We’ve canceled plans over sore throats/cold symptoms that turned out to be not COVID and have had the same happen to us.
When I joined my Monday morning department meeting this morning, I think I caught the tail end of my boss telling another coworker that it wouldn’t be long. I assume he meant return to work, but didn’t catch the full conversation. We’re going full steam ahead with our plans for a June event we always host , almost always in Wisconsin, which has been way more lax than where I am. Super curious how it’s going to go. I’m fine going but plan to mask up. A meeting I was in last week, people spent the last 20 or so minutes arguing back and forth about WFH vs remote preferences and whether or not it’s time to relax a bit and I found the entire thing grating to listen to.
I finally ventured out a bit this weekend for the first time since we dropped mask requirements a few weeks ago. My salon is still requiring masks, but I forgot when I booked the appt that it fell on the day my city celebrates St. Patty’s and, being in a lively neighborhood that skews younger, everything nearby looked like chaos. I went to brunch yesterday and dropped by Sephora after and while neither required masks, I’d say about half opted in.
So my company just sent out an email officially updating our mask policy to be optional for fully vaccinated staff. So, I was wrong there. The office I work out of, we share a floor with one of our sister companies (they have a separate office suite) and there are only nine of us. I’m not terribly concerned on that point, I just thought the rules would be more strict on account of our main office. This afternoon’s update says upper management is still discussing how to bring everyone back safely and in a hybrid manner, so still on the edge of my seat about returning.
I have yet to visit the grocery store since we lifted the mandates here at the end of February, but in my area of the city, people have generally be great about masking up… so I’m curious about the grocery store.
I take public transit sometimes, but not too often. It’s never been crowded when I’ve been on it. Well, I had an appointment on Monday evening so I was on the el at about 6:30 p.m. It was the busiest I’ve seen it in years, not quite standing room only. I took it as a sign many companies have brought people back in or are at least starting to.
My company will likely be announcing our return to work plan by end of week. Upper management is meet about it today. I’d like a little notice of the plan in case my work pants no longer fit so that I can go buy a few work wardrobe staples, haha.
They lifted mask mandates here maybe two weeks ago and I actually haven’t really been anywhere yet to see how things are going. I’ve had a few medical appts and been on public transit a few times, but masks are required in those settings.
I’ve been using CeraVe and think it’s fine. It’s a drugstore product, so it’s budget-friendly, but I’ll be trying something else when I finish the tube I’m on. Leaning toward trying The Ordinary or Olay next. I’m basically just working my way through Dr. Shereene’s picks for vitamin C (https://www.pillowtalkderm.com/shop-my-shelf/ … her video on it is interesting, too, she talks about active vs. inactive vitamin c and the benefits of each, concentrations to look for, etc.) to see if there’s one I really like.

Zero consequences for my sister’s coworker that I’m aware of. This happened before there were any requirements to be vaccinated at her company. Sounds like he just kinda told people unprompted that he was vaccinated then months later put his foot in his mouth so everyone found out he’d lied. She says he’s vaccinated now, but who knows.
ETA: Those M.Gemi shoes look like what I was trying to find for work right before COVID started. A coworker who always looks put together wore a similar style to that when she wasn’t wearing heels, so I thought I’d try to find my own. I didn’t find anything quite right pre-COVID, so maybe when I go back I’ll give those a shot.

Still TBA when we will be back. The target date has been moved several times since summer 2020. They haven’t bothered setting any kind of target date since last summer, when we were anticipating a fall return in a hybrid capacity that never happened. My company errs on the more cautious side of things. We are currently pushing forward with plans for an in-person conference that we have every June, though, and assuming that goes as planned, can see it being used as the event that steers us back toward in-person activities.
My local friends and family are all over the map, though I’d say at least half are still full-time remote. My sister has been going into the office a few days/week since last fall. She has a coworker based out of another office who, it turns out, was caught lying about being vaccinated. I have one friend who started going into the office every day voluntarily because she wasn’t doing well mentally working remote.
Yeah, I’m curious if my work will be setting a return to office date in light of changing guidance here. The courts are also dropping mask mandates and we work closely with them. My company has punted several times on a date to return to work in a hybrid capacity. At this point I prefer to wait until it’s warm.
ETA: It took almost two years but I’m finally accustomed to WFH. I think I’ll like a hybrid model, but I think the transition back will be a little rough for me.

I take a daily multivitamin, magnesium, and a probiotic daily as far as supplements go. The probiotic I know helps me. The other two, not as sure, but they don’t hurt.
I’ve been curious to try the Sunday Riley vitamin C serum — have heard good things from derms I follow online and read good reviews — but the price tag is up there so I’m not sure I can justify it unless I find it on sale. I think I’m still a couple months away from finishing what I have.
Also, I finally got a set of long barrels for my air wrap. I got the smaller size. The larger barrel is still out of stock. But it makes a huge difference to have the long ones!
I think there’s a nation-wide trend toward easing up on mask mandates. My state (Illinois) is planning to life its indoor mask mandate in many space by the end of the month and while the governor was trying to keep masks in school, the courts have so far overruled him. Last I read, Chicago, which is where I am, is still TBA on when our mask mandate will be lifted but I plan to continue to wearing mine.
Let me know how you like your The Ordinary products after you’ve gotten a feel for them, @hfantods! I use the hyaluronic acid and like it. I have yet to find a vitamin C that feels like my holy grail product so curious to know your thoughts on that one specifically. Right now I’m using I think CeraVe vitamin C serum and like the rest that I’ve tried, it’s fine.
