So now people are coming to work sick because it’s like, they only have to come in for social or collaboration stuff, and they don’t want to stay home sick and look like they’re not a team player I guess. I’m pissed right now. Today I went in because my boss and some teammates were going in for this big collaboration thing and I wanted to say hi to people and sit in on some of the thing. So then it turned out some important people couldn’t attend for some reason and they needed one more person to interview teens and parents. So I said okay, even though I’d now have to stick around until 6. Well, I ended up in a tiny conference room with this guy who was all stuffed up and didn’t explain what he was sick with or if it was allergies or whatever. No comment to put me at ease. No mask. And we had to huddle together to zoom with these people, because there was a firewall issue with the conference room system so we had to use one laptop. Also my boss was just visiting her parents in India for 2 weeks and she’s sick too and came in. She took a Covid test but still. She claimed she was going to wear a mask all day but didn’t. There’s a sign in the lobby that says don’t come in if you have symptoms.

Yeah, same here. Most people wear masks on the T but there are some who don’t, and they tend to be younger men from what I’ve seen. I don’t tell people to wear masks and strongly discourage my husband from doing so, because you never know who is crazy and will cough on you or otherwise get violent. This happened to us with an old, definitely mentally ill guy last year. I don’t think you were in any danger with those girls and they were already being dumb bitches so I think it’s fine you said something, but overall I worry these days. I ask my husband not to honk the horn at people or mess with them while driving too. Like a while back some guy did something and then my husband slowed way down and the guy came rushing around us and slammed his brakes on trying to get us to rear end him. People are crazy.

This past 6-9 months, the President of our division retired. Good for her, seriously, she’s only in her 50s and wanted to spend time with her family. So we have a new President AND my boss’s boss moved over to a special team where he has no reports (interesting!), and he’s now been replaced too. So I am really bracing for a shakeup or reorg or something. My boss has been acting bonkers for a while now.

Also I’m on vacation, and Fashion Pass rental service is so great. I have matching sets and dresses that are perfect for the scene and climate. I only had to bring my own, like, swimsuits, underwear, leggings, and shoes.

I wouldn’t necessarily throw out makeup that’s expired, unless it looks or smells weird or you don’t like it.

Another plug for Maybelline Lash Sendational. It’s so good.

Also, L’Oreal sublime tanning drops that you mix with moisturizer. No way am I putting my face in the actual sun. These are great, and then I only need like a tiny bit of Maybelline Dream Fresh CC cream (with SPF).

I also tried a Korean sunscreen you can get on Amazon, Isntree Watery Sun Gel SPF 50. It’s great! It’s not a gel at all, it’s more like a serum. No white cast. My husband is very picky about sunscreen on his face, and he said this was really nice. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for an everyday face sunscreen.

Also, foundation… L’Oreal True Match serum foundation! It’s not like a glowy serum, it dries down so if you have oily or combo skin it’s really nice. It’s very lightweight but has coverage. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and would definitely buy again.

I hear great things about glossier cloud paint, but I like my Benefit Hula Lite powder bronzer and Dandelion blush.

Wow, he sold his house and rented his daughter an apartment last year. In grade 10.

Right, he doesn’t say, “my late wife, G.” Or “my wife, G.” He doesn’t say her name. The last time we were on this trip, she was there. She was sick.

He’s going to be like, “oh, Kate and M can hang out while we’re at practice.” Hell no. Nothing against her, but she’s got to be an asshole too if she sees nothing wrong with this situation.

That’s horrible! Do they know his prognosis?

Sounds like at a minimum he’d have to be on oxygen… forever? Can a collapsed lung resolve itself or be repaired?

Ew, ok, so a little ways back I told about this guy who’s a friend of my husband, whose wife passed away literally 14 months ago from pancreatic cancer. And he’s getting married this spring. And moved to her country (where he’s originally from), leaving his kids behind.

So we just got the invitation to one of the weddings – apparently there are two – in Munich. It is the most tacky thing. On the front it has embossed dates 1999 – 2022 with an infinity symbol. Because they were together in the 90s and then there was that whole 20+ years when he was married and had kids and his wife died of the worst kind of cancer. We’re just forgetting that whole thing. It’s got a stamp that’s a photo of the two of them. It has some tacky font. It talks about celebrating their love in a very special way, with a festival of the senses and a magical party, and outfit changes. They want the guests to wear traditional Bavarian attire in the afternoon and then change to evening clothes.

We are not going. We don’t think anyone is, including his kids. His longtime friend who is my husband’s boss is going to the other wedding, but his wife just put her foot down and said no even though she’d love to go to France.

To be clear, I have no problem with someone dating again after being widowed. But don’t have two flamboyant weddings and abandon your kids ffs.

Next week I’m going to San Diego for a rowing regatta because why not, I can just hang at the hotel and drink cocktails. This guy is going because he’s in the boat. As a special moment, here is the message he sent to the other guys on the team. Gross.

    “Dear all,

FYI, many of you met my former wife three years ago at the Crew Classic. You might also know that she then passed away after battling pancreatic cancer. Now to the reason I am sending you a note.

After quite a few years of hardship on the personal side, something magical happened to me last year. By chance, I met the woman again who was indeed the love of my life some 30 years ago. It wasn’t meant to be at the time, but it does today. M and I will get married on June 3rd near Munich, and I have already moved my base to Germany, maintaining my professorship in Canada for the next five years.

So why am I telling you all this?…well, M will join me in San Diego and I wanted to make you aware.

    See you all next week

    Cheers and beers

    A”

My hair salon just made them optional because Boston removed indoor mask mandates. But my stylist had hers on and I wore mine too. It’s still required on the T and I intend to keep wearing it on transportation. At work it’s optional.

Interesting about that flight… all flights I’ve been on, the attendants were strict about making people wear their masks correctly, and waking them up if their mask slipped down.

During much of the pandemic I’ve done my own nails with mostly Olive & June polish and their manicure tools. They are great products but the polishes can be hit and miss in terms of formulation, like some of the pastels are streaky and some of the bolds are too thick. I got their “Honest & True” light blue color at Target recently, and this one is a hit. I wore it for a week with no chips at all and only redid it because I wanted to cut my nails shorter. It goes on really well and I think is a universally flattering color and perfect for Spring.

They have a pedicure kit I got for Christmas last year that’s great too, though I still prefer not to bend over for that long. I am back to going to the salon for pedis. But for everyday manis, I don’t really want to spend $20 a week and lately it’s been chipping quickly.
