My friend refuses to come in at all, ever. She’s like, “I need to work out. And I don’t wear any clothes anymore but running tights and joggers.”
I get it but, again, it seems extreme to say never ever. There definitely is something to in-person interactions and being willing to show up for some things. And I think things have gotten casual enough that you could honestly wear joggers and a clean sneaker.
It was so bizarre to see people airing this stuff while logged into the central system so everyone can see who you are. The person commenting the most with vaccine misinformation is a business analyst in HR, out of our NC office.
Basically what happened was the CEO asked fully vaccinated people to come into offices for a week of their choosing in December and we’d get to, you know, interact with others and be given some treats. So the anti-vaxxers lost their shit and were all “segregation!” “Medical Apartheid!” “I do my research!” “I have natural immunity!” “My vitamin D levels are high!”
You also had a lot of people being like, “I’m productive at home. I don’t want to commute anymore. My mental health is better now. I spend time with my baby.” Which, okay, but you can’t work this out privately with your boss, and maybe come in sometimes to show you’re a team player? No one is saying to come back full time.
Anyway. Jesus Christ.
She actually is a good manager in a lot of ways. Really, one of the best I’ve had. I’ve been working in business for 20+ years so I’ve had quite a few. But she does have some personality traits that are rather wacky and, like everyone, the pandemic has exacerbated them. Even before, she was described as “neurotic and controlling.” I find I can usually manage her, but sometimes she takes me by surprise.
Just got an email from my company that says OSHA issued an emergency temporary standard today requiring employees in businesses with 100 or more workers be fully vaccinated or provide weekly tests. They’re going to follow up with next steps soon. I’m sure there are people even in our New England offices who aren’t vaxxed, and more in our southern offices. This could get interesting.
