Our winters aren’t that brutal anymore, due to climate change. Getting less and less so. To me, the summers are getting worse, with more and more 90+ degree days.

Everyone who’s super angry, I get it, especially if you’ve lost someone. Absolutely, be angry. For me, it’s a lot better for my mental health to 1) disengage from idiots because trust me you’re not going to change their mind, and 2) listen to what the health professionals are saying and just do that. I can completely control my own behavior. I have no energy to give to being angry at morons. You can’t fix stupid. The other issue is that the more you focus on what these people are doing (flying to Hawaii, meeting up indoors without masks, having a wedding), the easier it is for you to slip into some unsafe behavior that you can justify because at least you’re not doing what THEY’RE doing. Better to just look away from the stupidity.

Unfortunately, not only has the pandemic become political, but you live in a red state. In a time when conservatives have abandoned belief in science, journalism, facts, etc. A lot of people need to aggressively pretend this pandemic is fake or exaggerated.

I will say, it’s better in a blue state. We have mask mandates and restrictions, and people at least believe we’re in a dangerous pandemic situation. But… It really is not safe now to get together with anyone. In warmer weather I think it was all right to eat outside with a friend or two. Now that it’s cold, just no.

Please just disengage with these people and hang in there until you can get the vaccine. Maybe you can get it sooner than other people. Don’t start taking risks now that it’s so close. Ignore your friends, they’re in la la land. Having tour boyfriend over if he’s coming into contact with lots of people, is not safe either. Just stay cool and get through it.

I had a sample of that watermelon sleeping mask from Sephora, I’m blanking on the brand, but it was lovely! Something to treat yourself to.

Vaseline, I’d never slather it on my whole face BUT it’s magical for any weird dry spots you get, and nice for cuticles.

I use the granactive retinol 2% in squalane. Like someone else said, it has kind of a thin, oily texture, but it doesn’t seem to cause any issues on my skin (which has oily parts). I think the 2% is the higher level, so you might want to start lower. I always really liked the neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair retinol serum in the silver tube too.

I will say, since this sun damage emerged about 8 years ago, I don’t feel like it’s gotten any worse, and that has to be due to sunscreen and anti-aging products. I have pale skin and there’s light hyperpigmentation on the right side of my forehead and a couple other spots. But they’re light and manageable. My brother has a ton of brown spots. He definitely doesn’t care, so fine, but I can look at that and see what I might be dealing with. The point is, start with sunscreen no matter your age!

Sunscreen is a must, and keeping your skin clean, but everything else is really optional and based on your skin’s needs.

My dad’s mom and sister never did anything special but cleanse and stay out of the sun (and my grandma used pink Olay). No makeup at least in my lifetime, and both had/have gorgeous unblemished skin. My aunt asked for moisturizer now that she’s in a nursing home and gets really dry.

My skin has needs… I look at my brother, who does nothing, and he’s got a ton of brown spots and clogged pores and just texture and tone issues and more wrinkles than I do. And I’m like, ok, what I’m doing is helping.

The dark spots are emerging sun damage. Even if you’ve been careful, it happens, and you probably ran around as a kid without technically enough sunscreen.

I think kiehls feels really luxe and moisturizing and smells nice, and some people love it, but I think you can get more anti-aging value from drugstore brands.

These are all good products people are mentioning. The most important thing is sunscreen, and then introducing these anti-aging products as early as possible. Moisturizer is important to give you soft, plumped skin and seal everything in, but once you’re in your 30s, it should be working in tandem with serums.

I can’t say I’ve noticed any real difference in retinol products, but I figure I’m older so I should use the strongest one that’s not like clinical and $$$.

Roc has a full-face version of that. I’d say buy that serum next time and just use it on your whole face right up to the eyeballs. More bang for your buck that way. The Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair retinol serum is comparable. Olay has a retinol line now too. I’m now using The Ordinary retinol serum in the highest concentration.

Also, I’ve never found a great eye cream, and I think you can skip it. It’s just a marketing gimmick, because you can put your other products right up to your eyes.

Another thing, you need less makeup as you age, not more.

@hfantods, generally you want to do the lightest/thinnest product first and the heaviest/thickest one last. So after you wash, you might do a AHA toner, then SPF then vitamin C serum, then Moisturizer.

At night, retinol serum then Moisturizer. Serums don’t replace moisturizer, you add them in.

Disclaimer: I don’t have sensitive skin, but retinol irritates some people so you should start with a lower concentrated product.
