Ugh, my frickin uncle. He’s my mom’s baby brother, he’s 60, she’s 70. He lives in St Louis, and every year they (he and his wife) come to Cape Cod. For a while he was driving here with his dog and staying a MONTH, working remote, at my parents’ condo down there. He’s an ass. He’s always been a really pompous, sexist, racist kind of guy who doesn’t AT ALL believe he is, but he is. His childhood best friend told him years ago he needs to get some anti-racism training. He didn’t vote for Trump but had to be manhandled to vote for HRC. He’s a dick to me, can be a dick to my mom, and just all around annoying.
ANYWAY, they’re coming here, driving across the country from MO where it’s a shitshow, through other states that are a mess, to MA where we now have the virus under control, and they’re obviously not going to quarantine as mass.gov says you should, and they’re going to be exposing my parents who have been super cautious. They did rent their own house, but still. What assholes. Stay home, you can’t take a year off?? Also, last 4th of July their (young) dog got hit by a car and killed and it was very traumatizing for everyone, my mom in particular. I’m so annoyed. I haven’t spent any time with my parents other than briefly, outside, since February, and these douchebags are just waltzing right in.
Literally every day now I wear stretchy high-waist jorts as a bottom (I have 2 identical pairs from Target), and whatever top. Usually like a short-sleeve blouse that I’d wear to the office. One day I had on a sleeveless top and threw on a light blazer for a couple meetings. I can even get away with cropped tops that I couldn’t wear to the office if the shoulders look fine on Zoom.
I was at Target for milk and saw they had a white pants suit that was super cute. I want to try it on. I also have cropped fitted pants from there that I’ve gotten lots of compliments on at work. They have a few different colors and patterns of them in stock.
Do you need actual suits? Those are fun, but you can also just have a couple of jackets to throw on over dresses or pants or even jeans.
I work at a finance company, and people do wear jeans (did; we stay home now), but would dress them up with dressy shirts and/or blazers. And nice shoes or boots. But not every day. In the summer, women wore a lot of comfy dresses.
I also think, jeans are jeans, the material is generally the same, so you’re probably going to be equally comfortable or uncomfortable in dark washes (which I think are easier to pull off professionally) as medium washes. White jeans are another office-appropriate option.
I cannot face wearing jeans in summer. It’s just too hot and humid. I could do it if I drove to work, but not on public transportation & walking. I need a dress or a lighter cotton pant.
Why jeans? How about some of the inexpensive lightweight fitted pants they have at stores like Target (or Loft or similar)? Really any black or gray or printed cropped pant, or white even, is great for summer. Or dresses are easy. You can throw on flat comfy shoes with either one, and bring a cardigan.
I think medium or lighter wash jeans can be too casual for some offices, particularly in Legal or Financial fields.
Yeah, me too. Being in the city without a yard is rough. Our previous home had a roof deck, but the location was meh. Our location now is prime, but no outdoor space. There’s a thing that used to be a fancy garden in the 1920s but now it’s just the garage roof. Somebody is always sunbathing out there lately though.
I got some pretty good news yesterday. Have not been able to hang out with my parents or go down to the Cape where they’re staying. But this weekend we’re down here on cape cod because they’re at their apartment in Boston which they’re giving up soon because they bought like a detached condo/house in this same town on the Cape, to live permanently.
So they just got an offer on their condo that they’ve had for 30 years. The buyer wants all the furniture, so the condo will be sitting here with the furniture in it until whenever they close, which would be end of July or possibly August. That means my husband and I can use it until then and even bring friends.
This morning we scattered some of the ashes of our dog who died in October, at his favorite swimming spot. It was a lovely warm morning with no breeze, and no one happened to be at the little beach so we had a private moment to scatter the ashes into the water and have a word. He would have loved swimming today.
Oh, well, I have a lot of wave in my hair, but with this round brush that’s also a blow dryer, I can dry it smooth and bouncy, with nice ends. I like having it that way for work.
If your hair is really dry, a good place to start is deep conditioning with a thick mask once a week, laying off of irons, and using heat protector when you do put any heat on your hair. Also regular trims.
They used my card on file and emailed me a receipt, so no use of the credit card machine or signing.
I’m liking this Inca Glow smoothing treatment. I did a blowout on Sunday using that John Frieda hot brush and it’s been hanging in there all week. Today is really swampy, and my hair is in a ponytail and it’s curling a bit but not frizzing. A woman on a Zoom call today showed these front pieces of her hair that are frizzing out of her ponytail like crazy and she always keratins the front of her hair but is overdue for it.
Anyway. Glad to have my hair on point.
WTF with not requiring masks in the supermarket! Ours is still on a limited capacity basis and there can be a long line. The aisles are all one-way, and masks are required. I ran over there this morning to grab some items for my neighbor and it was totally fine and under control. I’ve been in the afternoon and had to wait a while to get in, but at least it’s under a canopy. I can’t believe masks aren’t required, that’s such a basic and easy way to prevent spread. Did Colorado not learn anything from 1918-19 when they had a bad second wave?
