I hope you’re right, but it was 100% deflating to read. Citing Biden’s history with women and Harris’ history as a prosecutor as reasons to not vote or vote third party.
There were also female Trump supporters too.
I guess my main point is don’t get complacent. People lived in a bubble thinking Trump possibly wouldn’t be elected in 2016. Despite the pandemic and the floundering economy, it’s still not a given he will be voted out in 2020. The USPS fiasco is one among many reasons.
Oh, so fun!! That’s so cute they met at camp / activities. From stories and pics, both seem like cool little dudes. Jealous. I hope it’s ok that I occasionally bring it up on here? You two are the only blogs I religiously read, like multiple times a day. I appreciate the communities you created, although I’m starting to become disenchanted with the community/commenters on the other one.
I was really depressed earlier this week while reading one of my other usual blogs. It’s of course, progressive. There were over 700 comments as of Friday. So many people were saying since the ticket isn’t progressive enough, they might vote third party or not all. I mean, I get it, Biden/Harris aren’t the perfect candidates. There’s a lot to dislike. They’re better than Trump, who is ruining the U.S. in more ways than 100. So VOTE FOR BIDEN/HARRIS, especially if you’re a swing state.
So, between reading that and the news about USPS, I was sad for our future.
You’re right. Trump and the GOP don’t care about the underprivileged. I do think some local governments, like Chicago’s and our mayor, did consider it and we ultimately decided to go remote learning. They’re trying to address issues for those who need it.
It’s something I think a lot about and try to help where I can. I always have.
I think the reopening of schools is a lot more nuanced than that. I’m absolutely not saying we should reopen schools because it’s a disaster. But what happens to the underprivileged kids whose parents have to work (most likely at jobs they hate serving or doing things for the privileged) just to keep lights on and food on the table? Many don’t have internet. Many kids will go unsupervised. It’s not like people working outside the home can just say “oh well, I’ll rearrange my schedule” or hire in home care.
This pandemic has greatly highlighted the economic divide, especially when it comes to children and schools.
Congrats!!!
Don’t think of it as his. It’s yours.
Honestly, I don’t like talking money on here because I’m embarrassed. I was in CC debt when the husband and I met. For like $15k or more. I’m out of it now, it took about 18 months, and it’s glorious. Anyway, after the husband and I got engaged, we bought a place. Well he did because he didn’t want to deal with my baggage while buying. We never thought of it as his. It’s always ours. We have an equitable arrangement that we revisit every few months. We’re both satisfied financially. It works.
We were always good about “Ours” vs “yours or mine” and I think that helps tremendously. We feel like a team or partners.
Woohoo!!! Congrats @copa. And good luck.
I spent my first 10 years on Ashland right at Grace and I loved it. I love where we live now too, although I sometimes miss the old neighborhood.
We’re right on the West Town/West Loop border. Up north, I was basically on the Lakeview/North town border.
Oddly enough, I didn’t even want to look at the place we bought. I didn’t like that it wasn’t top floor and I was being kind of shitty about checking it out. Then I saw it. And loved it. I mean, we now have a nine-foot dining room table!!!!
Since we’re hopefully here for the long haul, the husband said I could update the kitchen in five years. I’m two years away. It’s decent, but I want an upgrade since I spend so much time cooking. I CAN’T WAIT.
@Copa, when we bought our condo three years ago, places would only be on the market for like two days. We’d see first day on the market. Put in an offer, usually $5k to 10k over asking or something. We’d then put in a best and final. And then lose. IT WAS INSANE. There were a couple all cash offers in there when we lost.
When we saw the place we ended up with, we fell in love with it. The layout, the size, the location and the three outdoor spaces were perfect. Our agent knew the selling agent and he worked out some kind of deal with her so we could get it. Thank god. I can’t remember the term, but basically whatever the highest offer was, we would put in a certain amount over up to so much. From my understanding, not a lot of agents
