Helen: I got mine at CVS and my dad found one in New Orleans at a CVS, too, so maybe they’re really well stocked.
LadyE: Congratulations on your dream job! For what it’s worth, I probably wouldn’t have asked for money under these circumstances either, but definitely revisit it once things calm down and you have a better grasp on the job and your value in it.
Helen, I’m glad you’re home! Get some rest. My husband went out today and picked up a pulse oximeter (took calling 6 stores to find one, but they’re out there). It’s a relief to know that even though I feel like I’m not getting enough oxygen, I’m still in the high 90% range. I’ve been using it like every hour. The shortness of breath With this thing is just awful, and I have asthma, so I’m not unfamiliar with the feeling.
BGM, my husband was looking at this SBA stuff for our small business. Said it looks to be a complete shitshow for the self-employed. My dad can’t even get through on the Louisiana unemployment website. Fingers crossed they work out some of the kinks next week. Otherwise, the stimulus bill was kind of useless.
Congratulations, @Ver!! I hope that you’re happy tonight and know that even though you didn’t get the wedding you wanted, you got the man you wanted and y’all have a lifetime to celebrate. If it’s any solace, you’ll have a great wedding story for any children/nieces/nephews. Also, a one year anniversary party at your venue would be a fantastic way to celebrate your first year of marriage.
So, the local grocery is out of almost all fresh meat (like, only steaks are left – no ground beef, chicken, nothing) and no eggs. Limited creamer and someone cleaned out the mashed cauliflower. (For real? This is red FL, I honestly thought I was the only person who even bought frozen mashed cauliflower here.) Also, garbage bags. Someone bought all the garbage bags. Why????
My dad is feeling better. Not great, but not worse and he’s coughing less with no breathing issues, so that’s a relief. He’s been sick about a week now, so I’m hoping that means he’s out of the dangerous downturn danger zone.
Fortunately, everything we had to do in person in NOLA has been cancelled or turned into “by telephone” – finally! So, we’re planning on being on voluntary lockdown – if not mandatory – in FL for the next couple of weeks. Getting groceries delivered this afternoon. Got wine delivered last night. (Gotta have the necessities.) Which is probably a good thing since my hair salon closed down voluntarily last week, too. My usual hair appointment was next week, so count me among the soon to be gray-rooted millions!
I still can’t believe that FL’s governor hasn’t closed down the beaches (??). Where we are, at least, it’s actually been quiet the last few days. More owners looking to hole up at the beach for the duration than spring breakers for sure. And no more parties at the community grill. So far.
I’m supposed to go back to New Orleans for work next week. Just got an announcement that there was a confirmed case in our office building (which, duh, NOLA is a hotspot right now and there’s not only one case – just one confirmed).
My husband and I have been working out of FL the last couple of weeks, waiting to see what was going to happen with all of this. Mostly, we can work from home, no problem. However, we have in-person stuff lined up next week in NOLA that we can’t continue due to pending deadlines. I have asthma and I honestly don’t know what to do. Send him alone? He has high blood pressure. (But he isn’t on one of the medicines that they think makes people with HBP more vulnerable.)
I’m so frustrated. State courts have closed down and continued deadlines and cases. In NOLA, all bars, coffee shops, malls, etc are shut down and restaurants are take out or delivery only. I’m sure an “all non-essential businesses” order is coming soon. But the federal courts – aside from converting some things to by telephone – haven’t shut down. And all deadlines remain pending, which means all lawyers have to keep doing what needs to be done for their cases, even if it has to be done in person. Or involves travel. It’s absolutely nuts. Just shut everything down already. Or shut nothing down. (Obviously not an option). But the half-in/half-out approach is accomplishing very little.
And in addition to the work angle, and my father, who is also in New Orleans, woke up yesterday with aches and pains and today had a cough and fever. Out of abundance of caution, he went to a clinic where they’re testing for COVID-19. Told him it ”sounds like the flu” – without testing for it! – and to ”come back if he gets worse.” Like unable to breathe worse. He’s in his 70s. There are currently two stories about men in the NOLA area who had symptoms, got told “it’s the flu” without a flu test and are now hospitalized with COVID-19. One is a previously healthy 45 year old now on a ventilator. The other was older, like 60s or 70s and obviously within the danger age bracket. But, apparently, you can only get a test if you’re well-connected, famous or half way to dead.
We don’t normally do much for Valentines Day, either, but this year it happens to coincide with a concert we both wanted to go see, so we’re going that. Should be fun! And, my husband has been super focused on improving his diet the last few months and he mentioned a couple of weeks ago that he’s lost enough weight that his favorite pants are annoyingly loose, so I got him another couple of pairs a size down.
Also, @Ver, I love Savannah!
