Drinking With Dear Wendy: Old Flame
If you follow my stories on Instagram, you probably already know that I’ve been working on a couple new Drinking with Dear Wendy cocktails and videos for winter, and I’m excited to share the first one of 2019 with you today. (Full disclosure: it’s amazing!) I took one of my favorite summer drinks — an Aperol Spritz — and winterized it with some bourbon, I added a twist of lemon and a little sweetness to balance the bitter, and after a little tweaking I dare say I have the perfect cocktail to enjoy on a cold day (preferably next to a fireplace if you’ve got one). After much deliberation and crowd-sourcing, I finally decided on a name: I call it an “Old Flame.”
Here’s what you need for an Old Flame:
2 ounces of Bourbon
1 ounce of Aperol
1/2 ounce of Simple Syrup
1 1/2 ounces of Tonic (preferably Fever Tree)
3 ounces of Prosecco
1 Lemon Twist
Fill a chilled highball glass about three quarters with ice. Add all the liquid ingredients in the order they’re listed and stir until almost frothy. Rim the glass with a lemon twist, and voilå – you’ve got yourself an Old Flame to enjoy!
Sounds AMAZING. I will have to try this.
I think you’ll love it, but let me know! Be sure to use a good tonic and not, like, Schweppes or whatever.
Fever Tree all the way.
Looking gorgeous Wendy. I love your hair. I think one day we need a mini tour of your adorable house. Loving that little bar area from what I can see.
Oh, thank you! One of these days I will do a house tour; right now, we still have too many blank walls that I’m embarrassed to share.
Picking out wall art or decor is the hardest part for me. I can never commit, then get into what I want to spend on art, never ending battle that I am about to start all over again.
