@ktfran I haven’t been to the store yet, the Unlimited membership is only online.
So far I have done dresses for Miami (including a gorgeous Herve Leger dress I could never afford) some work dresses (I work in Big 4 accounting so very corporate) that can take me into happy hour, and some shirts for weekend events. Looking forward to trying the accessories and hand bags too.
I think it’s awesome for weddings because you end up taking a million pictures at each one so I’m not keen to wear the same fancy dress every time or buying several fancy dresses. I’m also from a place with absolutely no seasons, so it gives me a chance to add in some key seasonal pieces (e.g. spring trench) for a few weeks when I need them and then move to other seasonal pieces (so many gorgeous maxi dresses).
May 3, 2016 at 10:39 am #496951I love rent the runway for weddings for the same reasons @Kmen said– I find if I buy a dress for a wedding, I drop a significant amount of $ and then never wear it again. With rent the runway, you can keep the max you are willing to spend pretty low (I usually don’t go above $50) and you get an amazing dress that is still nicer than what you could realistically afford, and you don’t have to worry about racking up all of these nice dresses in your closet you wear once and then don’t really wear again. I highly recommend.
I bought this dress for my cousin’s June, evening wedding at City Winery. Think outdoor wedding and cocktails in a courtyard and indoor dinner and dancing at a fun little restaurant in the city.
I think it’s fancy enough for that, but I can also use it as a pretty summer dress. I had to order it, so have yet to receive it.
If it doesn’t fit or I don’t like it, I’m def using Rent the Runway. I’ve used before and like. K – I kind of like your idea!
May 3, 2016 at 10:55 am #496961I’ve done rent the runway a few times and have been to the store. I rented a dress for an event a few months ago and there was a storm between the midwest and NYC, so EVERYONE’s dresses were delayed. All of us ended up in the store and i put my name down and came back three hours later for a fitting room. It was crazy, yo! i don’t think it’s usually that bad, especially if you make an appointment.
I used to buy dresses, wear them to sorority formals, wear the next year to a fraternity formal, then sell it. Worked out okay before the days of RTR.
@Portia, I sold my old wedding dress on preownedweddingdresses.com Easy!Speaking of selling stuff, has anyone had any luck selling old engagement rings and such? I tried CIRCA, but it wasn’t worth it. I am thinking of taking the stone out (ruby) and selling the set since it’s fairly popular and someone would probably rather have a diamond in it
I probably won’t end up selling my wedding dress anyway. It’s not really wedding-y (white, blue, and purple floral ball gown), so I’m not sure anyone would buy it on preownedweddingdresses. Plus I didn’t really pay that much for it in the first place, got it for 60% off a month before the wedding…
