Oh and also, I traveled to Malta (small island below Sicily) for the race and it was lovely and sunny and warm. And I visited the famous Azure Window. And then I found today it fell into the sea! It was the most beloved Maltese icon, I just can’t believe it! If you’ve seen Game of Thrones, you’ll recognize it: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20170308/local/the-azure-window-lost-and-gone-forever.641810
MissDreMarch 8, 2017 at 9:29 am #676449Congrats!! That’s really awesome! I don’t mind running but I die after like 3 minutes.
I think things are progressing well with my dude… even though we are far apart. I was planning to wait until I got to Europe to have a talk about where we’re at but… things kind of came up last night and I’m feeling good about things 🙂
lucia_laMarch 8, 2017 at 9:43 am #676456@portia, if you can run 10 miles then you can pretty much run a half! Many training programs for the half only have you run up to 10 miles in training, and then you jump to 13 for the race. I highly recommend signing up for a race if there’s something in your area, though! The energy was amazing and it’d definitely keep you dedicated to training.
Yay @lucia_la! I ran my first half marathon last fall and didn’t QUITE train properly (was only running 1-2x/week instead of 3+), so I didn’t accomplish either of my goals as a newish runner and first-time half-marathoner (to not walk and to finish in under two and a half hours… I finished in two hours and 31 minutes), but I had a BLAST and am planning to do the same race again this fall but hopefully better. The first 10 miles of that run were so much fun. The final three I rode the struggle bus but still finished. @Portia, if you can run 10 miles, you should be able to run 13. I have a 5-mile race that I signed up for in about a month and I’ve been on exactly three runs since my half marathon, so I should probably get a few in before race day!
Also, whenever I’m down about how shitty people are, I feel an urge to go to a race. The running communities at the few races I’ve done have always been so positive and encouraging. The half marathon I ran has an “underwater mile” (a tunnel that stretches from Canada to the U.S.), and everything in that tunnel echoes, and everyone was cheering and shouting out encouragements that bounce all around you. Yay endorphins!
Ha, fun article, Copa! I’m in austin and the bearded techie with weird hobbies thing seems to be true…I generally like that though, so it’s good! I’m still seeing one of the guys I posted about a few weeks back. I’m not in any particular rush to get in a LTR and we’re on the same page about that. Honestly, it’s been a lot of fun to meet new people and get out for low expectation casual dating over the last few months.
TheLadyEMarch 9, 2017 at 12:02 am #676641My weekend was a lot of fun if not super busy! Friday night I went out with my guy friend who’s in the middle of his divorce; we went to 3 places downtown and he got me my first drink at a fancy restaurant that I’d just recently heard of (I don’t go downtown much, haha). On Saturday I went to a baby shower for a coworker in a brewery! Sunday, I introduced another guy friend to Zootopia – if you haven’t seen it, you definitely should: it’s extremely well written and very, very timely.
Anyone have any fun weekend plans for this weekend? I’m going out to dinner with a friend on Friday that I haven’t seen in forever, and Saturday night I’m going out with another guy friend (the last guy I dated from OKCupid, actually, as we’ve legit decided to stay friends) to a comedy club. Sunday it might snow here (!) so I’m hoping it’ll be a low-key day where I can get some meal prep and cleaning done. Ah, adulthood.
MissDreMarch 9, 2017 at 9:14 am #676699You guysssssss! I just found something on my phone that got me all excited. I think it’s Kate that’s a big fan of the book Is He Mr Right? She recommended a while back and I read it at the time. I don’t think I finished it because I wasn’t seeing anybody at the time.
But I went through this exercise where you write down what you’re looking for in a guy. Things like:
-How does he make you feel?
-What does he look like?
-What’s his personality like?
-What is he like in the relationship?
-What is his family like?
-Where does he work?
-What do you need from him?I typed my thoughts in a Note on my iPhone and then never looked at it again. Today, I opened up this note from May of 2015 and as I was reading through my typed thoughts I was like… “Holy Shit, it’s like this was written specifically about the guy I’m seeing!” So that got me all excited.
Now, I know I’ve only known him for about 5 months which isn’t a lot of time. So I’m aware that this doesn’t mean we’re destined to be together or anything like that. But it was exciting that after 5 months he’s still showing signs of being the kind of guy I’m looking for (this is a record for me I think… in the 2.5 years I’ve been single nothing has lasted longer than about 8 weeks).
Anyway, just wanted to share!
