Another great date! He’s super easy to talk to! We got tacos at a different place than we’d originally planned, then got a drink at a bar down the street. As I hoped, mo’ kissing YAS! 🙂 Next week, he’ll be traveling to three different cities for work, but he said he’d like to see me again before he leaves. I’d really like that. I know he has some family stuff going on this weekend for Easter, so I hope we can coordinate! Maybe I’m jinxing myself by putting this out there — I definitely said this about a year ago about another guy, and that fell apart within a few months — but I have a good feeling at the moment.
Tangent: My mom is Mexican and I have a lot of family in California, and sometimes I’m just appalled by what passes for good tacos in the Midwest. Hahaha. Last night’s tacos were at a popular taco joint, and while I wouldn’t say it was bad food by any means, those weren’t good tacos!
@copa tacos are hard in the Midwest lol. I had some in the hospital cafeteria that looked DELICIOUS but had no flavor whatsoever. I was so excited to eat them too! Looks were very deceiving 🙂
We always make Mexican food for Easter so I’ll just make better tacos myself.
April 12, 2017 at 2:55 pm #681566@copa nothing like homemade tacos! The one time I eat beef is when I make tacos or we do them at home.
There is a cool Mexican fusion restaurant in Calgary called Native Tongue Taqueria and they have some good tacos! More traditional than most places. Lovely small corn tortillas and some tasty fillings! A friend went to Mexico and visited a friend there and had a really authentic food experience. The pics if the tacos he took looked similar to what this restaurant serves.
The other day I had this amazing idea to start an Insta called TacoTits, that would just be pictures of mouth-wateringly delicious tacos… on my boobs. Like maybe I’d get a special bra made with taco pockets? I thought of it because we were talking about Katy Perry, and how she’s famous because she has like pinwheels and cupcakes on her boobs. But then it turns out that every variation of Taco Tits is already taken on Instagram.
Copa, as a Southern California who is 75% Mexican (so three Mexican grandparents) and lives in the Midwest, I am the most annoying taco elitist!
And as my bf lived in Calgary for a long time and was still dumbfounded by what I call an authentic taco….things can LOOK like a taco and not be anywhere near right LOL.
I miss driving to Ensenada for lunch 🙁
My city has some GREAT taco spots. Like, authentic, no-frills, hole-in-the-wall taquerias that have really good tortillas and well-seasoned meats and whatnot. It’s the trendy taco spots that everyone raves about as must-try-restaurants here, and I don’t like those as much. With tacos, the hype always ends in disappointment for me. (One place I tried on my sister’s recommendation and the LETTUCE somehow overpowered every other flavor. Haha.)
I once wrote a scathing review on Yelp for Antique Taco in Chicago. I have never been so angry with a food item in my life. But every single person I meet her raves about it. And I listed in my dating profile to please god not recommend it as “good tacos.”
I may be overly obsessed with tacos.
KApril 12, 2017 at 3:36 pm #681577The city just across the river from me has quite a few authentic Mexican hole in the wall places. So far we’ve only tried two, because we love the first one. They offer more than just tacos, but I always get their tacos! They make the best green spicy sauce to put on them.
@Kmtthat THAT’S WHERE WE WENT! I was so disappointed but didn’t want to be a total jerk (and hopefully wasn’t). It’s not even that I think it’s bad food — it’s just not GOOD tacos. I thought they had good guacamole, and rarely feel that way about any guac I didn’t make. There’s a Mexican grocery store around the corner on Ashland, Carnicerias Guanajuato, that has a little taqueria inside. I feel like the biggest gringa alive every time I step foot inside, but those are my favorite tacos in the Midwest so far. (Though they still fall short of what you can get in California.)
Copa, I walk by that place every time I get my hair colored/cut! I might have to stop in sometime. I was going to ask where you two like Tacos.
I never make it down Halsted for Mexican, but I do like el Tapatio up by me. The bartender now knows the fiance and I… although we’re moving 🙁
