Yes, multiple times! I’ve been pretty good with keeping it even because I hate owing people things. When we went out to a more expensive meal I suggested we split it because I felt that was more fair. Of course I’m good with paying. I don’t even know why I wrote that. I think just on a social level in groups, I feel awkward speaking up and saying I’ll cover this.

No, it’s totally normal to cover the birthday boy’s tab. It’s weird if you don’t.

I did my second open mic tonight!! I got a little nervous and one of the other comics gave me a pep talk. It was really sweet. 🙂 The whole community is really supportive and it’s something I can see myself doing for a long time. Yay. I seem to be writing standup every single weekend and coming up with new ideas all the time. This may be the most creative time in my life outside of my Master’s degree (in screenwriting) a decade ago. Super happy with that right now!

It has been great reading all of the good updates!!!!! Ver, I’m excited about your new job, and the dates! And Fuck your old boss. WOW! Copa, have fun playing the field! Remember, you’re in this to see who you like better, not waiting for one to drop out. And LadyE, that’s super cool about open mic night. I would never be so brave.

Hfan, I would totally pick up the tab for his birthday, even if in front of friends. If they think that’s weird, than I’d say they’re weird.

Kate, quick question, where do you like to go in Mexico? What’s the resort? A friend and I want to go away for a long weekend this winter. Her husband and mine both do fall dude trips, so we’re going on a winter trip. Requirements: beach and drinks and easy flight. Originally, we were looking at different caribbean islands, but hurricanes decimated most. Anyway, I know you have spoken highly of the place you go, but couldn’t remember where.

Well are you looking to go to Cabo or Riviera Maya? We don’t go to Cabo for long weekends because it’s too far from Boston, but Riv Maya is a direct flight from Boston to Cancun. I’m not sure how it works from Chicago, but I would look for direct flights so you don’t get fucked on your connection.

In Riviera Maya, we loved Secrets Capri probably the most (adults only, small, really nice and fun), but we also loved Now Jade, the caveat being you need to book the premier club thingy so you have access to the very quiet no-kids pool. It’s so worth it.

In Cabo we go to Hacienda Encantada, which is 10 mins outside of town but with a free shuttle. Definitely go all-inclusive. It’s SuPER chill and low key and beautiful, but if you want more of an in-town party atmosphere, Lianne’s place the Sandos Finisterra was good too. If you have a big budget, Grand Velas is supposed to be the best.

PS the first two weeks of December are the best imo. Rates are great and fewer kids.

THANK YOU! Both are easy to get too, with Cancun being super easy. Wanted shorter flights, since only going for a long weekend. And it’s so much easier to start from recommendations, especially at all inclusives. Thanks!

Sure. We took a chance on a couple that we didn’t like as much, in Riviera Maya, and the trips weren’t quite as enjoyable.

@ktfran – Kate knows far more about Mexico than I do, but last year I stayed at this resort. It’s adults only and the all inclusive was amazing. It’s in Riveiera Maya and I just can’t recommend it enough.

    @LadyE – that’s so awesome! Congrats!

@Copa – do you like either one more than the other? Just curious but it sounds like you’re having fun with both!

@hfan – I’d pay for his lunch and not worry too much about it.

I went to STL for a date this weekend and we went to the art museum. It’s apparently one of his favorite places to go so it was nice to see that side of him and how stoked he got explaining some of the art. We got a nice dinner and had drinks on a rooftop hotel so that was pretty nice as well! He’s going to come up here next weekend for a fall festival. I like this guy 🙂

Three days left at this job. Just three. The fun co workers are planning a happy hour for thursday so that will be the real going away party. And I got an email from the new boss today letting me know I’ll be on a work trip to Napa in December. So if anyone wants to come pinch me and make sure this is all real, I’d appreciate it.

@Ktfran, Zoetry is the highest-tier brand in the AM Resorts chain, which also includes Secrets and Now, and I’ve heard it’s nice. It’s more expensive though for sure. When we ask the locals what’s the best place, they always say the Grand Velas though, not Zoetry, not sure why.

Also, we tend to stay no more than 20-30 mins from the airport, so like, not Tulum. Zoetry might be farther out than where we usually go.

Thanks for the intel! Meetings are done for the day, time to look everything up!

Ver, that’s really cool about the art museum. Your weekend sounds fun!

    **irrational anxiety alert**

I know this is irrational – it’s just…..you know when you start dating someone and you are just super aware of every word and action because you try to decode it and any meaning behind it? Just me? I’ve noticed I’ve been pretty anxious since Sunday for no reason I can determine (maybe because i’m starting a new job next week and my parents have been sick and I’m projecting onto this awesome guy?) But I just have no reason to think anything is wrong with the new guy, but I’m anxious!

This weekend is the first weekend we don’t have a date scheduled since early September – which is no big deal, we have one scheduled for next weekend. I think I’m just a head case right now. Anyone else out there crazy like me? Lol
