Speaking of dates. Tonight is date night.
Stepson has been at his moms for two weeks. Side note: semi year round school rocks. Instead of three months for summer he has two and gets a two week fall break and a 2 week spring break instead of one. Nice for many reasons, especially since his mom is out of state. He comes home tomorrow afternoon so we are squeezing a night out in, plus husband works half days on Fridays so he’s not tired come Friday evening usually.
Not sure what we are doing but I’m excited to get out of the sweat pants and have some fun. I kind of want to go to this bar/ arcade. Has all old games like Mac man. I’ve been to one in Denver and it was a blast.
So what did everyone do this weekend? We were supposed to go to a clockwork orange, drove all the way into downtown LA..and then got there and discovered the outdoor cinema had changed the movie to Coco when we see all sorts of people running around in day of the dead makeup. Not exactly the experience I was expecting. The AG looks at the wildly painted people and then me and says in a very deadpan voice “I always have the most memorable time with you.” I laughed soo hard and then we went to a bar for a drink and then out to dinner.
speaking of silly…during the day he took me to the museum of Jurassic technology, which was not at all what I expected. I was expecting old crays and radio shack computers, maybe a LISA. Instead, it is just full of oddness. I really like that he gets my sense of humor – I enjoy the ridiculous so much and he pretty much gave me that. All in all a good weekend.
I’m nervous though – tomorrow is his birthday. I bought him a present of course, something small and hopefully thoughtful, but now I’m seriously overthinking this. What do you get the significant other at the 5 month mark when you have Serious Feelings but havent talked about em yet? Sheesh.

We were pretty lazy this weekend. It was coooolddd. We had our first hard freeze. It was 28 at night. And 67 today. Weird for sure. Stepson misses his flight back, “they didn’t call boarding”. Uh huh. They actually called him name, and he heard it, but ignored it. Teenagers. So we got to stay up until super late on Sat to wait for his later flight. I really can’t with teenagers some days. ??♀️
Friday, BG and I did dinner, drinks, and a movie (Crazy Rich Asians). Saturday, went out with some college friends to watch football and have drinks, and as a result I spent like half of Sunday hungover on the couch.
@Alafair I wouldn’t put too much pressure on the gift. BG had his bday about a month ago at the two-ish month mark. I was going to take him indoor skydiving, but time got away from us and ended up cooking him dinner and getting a nice dessert to share. He seemed to appreciate the gesture of wanting to celebrate together in some way. So I’m sure AG will appreciate the gesture and thought.
@Fyodor Was it HOF’s litter reunion or just a rescue reunion? I get together with my dog’s litter and owners several times a year and it’s so much fun. We drink and eat while our pups play.JDOctober 24, 2018 at 10:25 am #805827@Copa I agree that a nice meal, either home made or at their favorite place, is a perfect early dating birthday gift. Also it can make the budget part easier, especially if you are cooking, so it doesn’t come across as spending too much too soon or too little since effort is involved. I have done this many times over the years and it always seems appreciated.
Also, how fun are the dog meet ups! My pup is from Kansas City and not even a Morkie breeder, they just had one from their family pets, one litter. My moms friend happened to adopt my dogs sister though so they have met a few times. I cannot wait until we are ready for our German Shepherd though and hope we can get him from a breeder close to us so we can be involved. I found this amazing breeder who breeds, trains, does continuing training, boards, everything. Of course they were INSANELY priced. We would love to adopt if the right dog comes along when we are ready but we may end up going with a breeder since he will be a protection dog as well so we want a BIG boy. Cannot wait until we have the fenced in yard for him.
So we’re at 5+ months. For his birthday I baked vanilla cupcakes (he’s strange and likes vanilla better than chocolate) and took him to a Roger Daltrey talk with Judd Apatow. (Roger Daltrey is from the Who for everyone who’s not into classic rock) I also bought him an album he’s been looking for for a while…he’s into vinyl.
It all went over well, and we had a great time so I’m relieved.
I would LOVE to do a dog meetup. They look like so much fun. I just want to go and play with the good boys. Sadly, I’m not allowed to have pets in my place. But if anyone has pics of their pets for me to fawn over, I’d love that too…
KateOctober 24, 2018 at 11:22 am #805834I took my dog to a Jack Russell Terrier “fun day” when he was younger, and it was SO CRAZY. They had all these activities for JRTs to participate in. They raced through tunnels with a cage of rats at the end (not harmed), and chased a rag on a motorized wire through an obstacle course, and hunted in hay in a barn for things that had been rubbed on rats or something. He had such a blast. The dogs waiting their turn for the obstacle course racetrack were losing their damn minds.
