Thanks JD! I did see a GYN recently and was told I could go on the (birth control) pill – which might help – but at my age I don’t want to take the pill. Though if it gets worse I will explore all options! It feels good to vent about it though.
Hope your back gets better soon!
TheHizzyNovember 28, 2018 at 1:49 pm #810330I used to be on the pill and it would help with my mood but I gained weight. Switched to the IUD and haven’t been happier. It regulates me better than a pill. My IDU expires in a couple years, I need to decide if I want to replace or go au-natural.
Miss MJNovember 28, 2018 at 2:11 pm #810336I’m 39 and have been taking the pill since I was 18. I went off of it a year or so ago for a few months (long story) and I was a freaking mess until I could get back on it. Mood swings, irrational anger, anxiety, sadness, not to mention a bitch of a period that went on for two weeks at a time — it was terrible. I’m back on it, and feel like myself again. Bonus — I got the kind for women with low iron, so even on the “off pill days” I don’t have a period.
CCLNovember 29, 2018 at 10:26 am #810412Another 43yr old over here! Just wanted to chime in that I was feeling like shit, definitely from hormones. I stopped taking the pill and was off for over 3 years but I felt so crappy (physically/emotionally) – tried everything with diet, exercise, vitamins, nothing helped. I talked with an older friend of mine who said she went through similar issues during her 40s (periomenopause) and if she could do it again she’d go back on birth control. I spoke with my nurse practitioner and said I’m not dealing with this bullsh*t anymore and I want to go back on birth control. I knew I didn’t want to take a pill every day (took it for 20 years), so my options were IUD (which I chickened out, couldn’t do it lol) or the Nuvaring. It’s something I still have to remember, but it’s every 3 weeks instead of every day and honestly, I am so glad I did. I feel so much better. I still get a little headache a few days before period but nothing like what I was going through before. Research Nuvaring and see if it may work with you. I read the good/bad/ugly but I haven’t had any issues at all. Love it!
November 29, 2018 at 11:43 am #810423good to know @CCL – thank you for telling your experience! I actually used the Nuvaring once a long, long time ago (may have been when it first came out). I actually liked it but insurance at the time wouldn’t cover it and I couldn’t afford the $80 a month it would have been. My insurance is better now so I may ask about it next time I go in.
November 29, 2018 at 12:11 pm #810425My sister used (or did use) the Mirena IUD for a long while and she loved it too and didn’t have any issues getting hers. I think if I go this route, I’ll likely use the ring or the pill though.
On another note, I’m glad it’s almost Friday. I plan to hopefully complete my holiday shopping this weekend so it can be done.
JDNovember 29, 2018 at 12:14 pm #810426I will never be on birth control, haven’t been for 7 plus years but that being said I don’t understand how people use Nuvaring. It just would come out on his penis like he was playing ring toss in there. Or he would complain about it rubbing against him and hurting. Maybe it’s made for the smaller men, i don’t know, but I only used it a month due to those issues. Was pretty funny though.
November 29, 2018 at 12:25 pm #810427Hahaha JD! Honestly, I don’t remember it was so long ago for me! I don’t recall it ever coming out like that but I think my husband did say he could feel it a little? Maybe it’s placement of the ring. IDK.
That made me LOL – so funny!!
