I thought about doing eyelash extensions until I saw how much it costs when you factor in the upkeep. I think they look great, and you can pick your level of drama, but they’re expensive. I’d have done it by now if it wasn’t so expensive. (I have no upcoming event that warrants a one-time application.)
Falsies are the cheaper alternative to extensions, you can choose dramatic or more natural-looking falsies, and I don’t think they’re super hard to put on with a little practice. I’m sure they’d teach you how to apply them at Ulta (or just watch some YouTube videos! I learned most of what I know about makeup application on YouTube). I’ve used Ardell Demi Wispies before for events and like the way those look.
My lashes are long and thick, or so I’m told, but they’re light in color. Mascara makes a world of difference in my appearance. When I use They’re Real by Benefit, my mom always asks me what I’m doing besides mascara. I’ve thought about trying lash tinting to see what that’s like on me.
TheHizzyJanuary 4, 2019 at 10:38 am #814365I’m very lucky to have very healthy nails. So I won’t be doing a manicure so I figured they money I didn’t spend on that, I’ll spend on eyelashes.
We have e-photos this weekend and I’m sure we’ll have a “close of” of the ring photo so I’ll decide then if I love or hate having all natural nails. I never like the feeling of polish on my fingers.
KateJanuary 4, 2019 at 10:40 am #814366I did get a dip powder manicure and I didn’t like it. It was way more expensive than gel, and I didn’t need it to last 3 weeks because as it grows out I don’t like that white space at the bottom and my cuticles need attention. Also when I got it removed it took forever and the guy used that electric sanding wheel, and it made my nails really thin and weak. I just do regular polish and if I’m going on vacation I do gel.
JDJanuary 4, 2019 at 10:42 am #814371I bought the Gelish professional kit, light and all on Amazon. Best money I ever spent. It was about $200 for the whole thing but $50 a manicure w/ gel, paid for itself quickly. It can be a bit tricky to find the polishes but I found some resources online, mostly Walmart, go figure, online, but it doesn’t ship from them.
I was years late to the gel manicure party, but I loved it so much it became one of my unnecessary regular expenses. One of my 2019 resolutions is not to do gel unless I have an event coming up.
My go-to for when I want something neutral on my nails is a light pink. I personally think nude nails are weird. If I were you, I’d probably get a “basic” manicure like Kate said.
I’m usually a regular polish person and then do the gel for vacation too. I did it before Christmas since I was going home for a week. I’m getting it off this weekend and getting a regular polish.
I’m not a DIY kind of girl, unfortunately. I get frustrated easily if I make one mistake, so I’d prefer to pay for someone to do it for me.
