    Thanks Skyblossom, I was one of the lucky ones as my house is on a hill. Lots of people have lost everything, there have been a couple of deaths. Mostly now it’s just waiting for supplies to arrive again.

    @Ange I’m glad you’re fine.

    Most of the towns in the county where I live were built on the tops of hills. We have long glacial hills so a new town would fit on a hilltop. I’ve always assumed it was to avoid flooding and maybe mosquitoes. I’ve reached a point where I don’t think I would want to live at the bottom of a hill beside a creek.

    Wow @Ange, glad you are safe. Sounds crazy. My dad is in Brisbane and pretty much complain about weather, regardless of highs or lows constantly. Thinking he wishes he was back in CA.

    I think my husband is cursing our weather. He left town and it was nice out (compared) and came back and brought freezing rain and it cracked his windshield. He apparently had a small chip we weren’t even aware of (as I always get them filled) and the garage to outside split it. Ugh.

    I had this horrific coughing fit on Sunday and my back has been out of wack since. I’ve been standing most of today and that gives me so much relief. Looking forward to a massage tonight!

    JD is your dad just visiting or lives there? I lived there for a decade including the 2011 floods and they were insane as well. Come to think of it everywhere I’ve lived since then has flooded. I’m a natural disaster.

    He has lived there for a while. Australia for over 25 years and Brisbane over 13 I think.

    I leave for Africa two weeks from today! I’m a little anxious with some last-minute details for the trip. Like I learned yesterday that a friend whose flight I thought touched down at the same time in Cape Town is actually on an earlier flight, and now I need to figure out how to safely get myself from airport to Air BNB at night in a city I don’t know. (I’m told taxis and Uber are safe during the day even for solo female travelers, but it’s not advisable solo at night.) So now I need to research private car companies, I guess. I’m not technically going solo, but it is my first major solo trip in many ways — and I’m a little nervous!

    BG and I have back-to-back trips planned (without one another) so I’m probably not going to see him for almost four weeks, which seems kinda crazy. We’ve started FaceTiming every few days when he travels for work, which has been nice, but four weeks!

    I definitely think a car company could be a good idea if you’re nervous Copa. Once you’re more into the swing of things you can make a judgement call but I’d be hesitant too on my first day.

    JD I’m tickled your dad is in Brisvegas. I won’t ask if he’s north side or south side because I don’t want to start a turf war ? (north side for lyfe!)

    Not relevant to anything going on in this thread, but BG spend this week in South Dakota for work. He left his hotel at 5:30 a.m. to make his flight that connects through Denver. Got on the plane, everything seemed fine, but after an hourlong delay, they said one engine wasn’t working and everyone deplaned. After a few hours of delays, he called United and they issued a partial refund to him for the inconvenience, and apparently cancelled his reservation and put him on an afternoon flight (don’t fully understand this part). Not sure what happened after that, but he’s now driving six hours to get to Denver to make a connection. YIKES! We had plans tonight but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he’s not getting home until sometime tomorrow at this point.

    OH gesh that is sucky. I would not be happy about driving 6 hours for a flight.

    Yeah, and from what I hear, Denver is experiencing their fair share of crappy winter weather right now. Not sure if it’s cleared up since Al Roker showed footage of it this morning. I don’t think he’s getting home until tomorrow morning at this rate. We have plans tomorrow night but we’ll see if he’s still up for a night out once he’s home. He’s gone back and forth about find a new job, one that lets him stay home more, and I’m curious if this will be the tipping point.
