Here’s what I’m currently using:
Tata Harper Lip and Cheek Tint (for my cheeks)
Ilia mascara
NYX lip gloss
And if I want to add a little extra, I’ll use Laura Mercier tightline cake eye liner.I do need to buy some new eye shadow. I threw mine out because it was old and I dropped and some of the colors broke and haven’t repurchased. Historically, I had an Urban Decay Naked palette.
I try to keep it fairly simple.
I also have a couple of Christian Dior lipsticks and lipliner if I want to go all out. I like them.
I use/like the Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil. They have two auburn shades and one might work for you, @LadyE. They’re not cheap, but the pencil lasts me a long time. My eyebrows are naturally on the defined side except at the very tips, so I need very little product and only to fill in the ends. I know that brand also has a brow gel, but I’ve never tried it.
In high school and college, thin eyebrows were very much in style and I basically tweezed mine all off and OMG it was so bad. I’m so glad they grew back!
I use Benefit Hoola bronzer, Dandelion blush, and their hydrating concealer stick.
BH Cosmetics makes awesome shadow palettes. I think you can get them on Ulta. I use the Hangin’ in Hawaii one. It goes on sale a lot for $8-$10.
Right now very much enjoying Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume (orange tube) mascara.
BittergaymarkJanuary 14, 2021 at 11:27 am #1003959Many women — and some very woefully misguided gay men definitely do go a little crazy on the eyebrows!
I don’t get it. A little plucking here and there, sure. But no eyebrow should be permanently in a high arch. Some all just look forever confused. Perhaps they truly are…
Other products I like/use:
– It Cosmetics CC cream for “everyday” coverage
– Estee Lauder DoubleWear foundation for “fancy day” coverage (does. not. budge. This stuff was amazing for days that I’d have to work all day and then do a quick outfit change in a bathroom before going to a cocktail hour + sit-down dinner for work), but it’s pricey
– Tarte Shape Tape concealer
– Hoola bronzer
– Milani blush
– Jordana mascara (I can find this brand at some Walgreens and for me it rivals just about any higher end mascara I’ve tried for like $3-4/tube), for higher end, I like Roller Lash
– Wet & Wild eyeshadows have treated me very well over the years
– I’m not a lipstick person, but I have received so many compliments on my Bite Beauty lipstick in the color Chai… it was a freebie mini from Sephora and like every woman in my family ran out to get it after I wore it to a weddingETA: The CoverGirl orange tube Lash Blast was my go-to for years! A lot of people love the Maybelline Great Lash mascara but it didn’t work well for me at all.
As a fellow redhead my eyebrows are nearly blonde but also with a red tint in them and I’ve also found it hard to find powder that’s not meant for blondes or brunettes’ so it’s either too dark or too light for my brows.
As I’ve mentioned before I barely wear makeup at all. I do use some IT under eye brightening cream and also the Bare Minerals Stroke of Light under eye brightener. But usually I just do that and some mascara, maybe some bare minerals blush and call it a day. I should probably do more but the older I get the less I want to wear makeup so I’ve been putting in the bare minimum. The last time I had a full face of makeup was my wedding day in March.
I’ve wondered if an under eye brightening cream might be good for me. I don’t love my undereye circles and have found some concealers in colors meant to correct the look for dark circles (like Erase Paste), but I find them all just okay. Nothing has wowed me.
And regarding over plucked eyebrows, it took me basically my entire junior year of college to grow my eyebrows back. It was so nice to look normal and natural after looking surprised for years. 😉 That was probably around the age that I finally realized that you look the best when you work with what you naturally have. I hated having fuller eyebrows for so long and now I like it. I’m glad I don’t have to wake up and draw them on.
And yeah, add me to the list of people who doesn’t like to bother with beauty as much as I get older. I LOVED playing with make-up and hair in my mid-20s. Now? Eh, I’ll put in that kind of effort when I need to, very rarely “just because” anymore. I’m happy with a low effort “my face but better” look for everyday.
LisforLeslieJanuary 14, 2021 at 11:56 am #1003987My brows are my best feature. I need nothing on them and I pluck / manage them weekly, just to keep the strays on the lids/forehead at bay. I have found one gray hair that irritates the crap out of me. I have also been put in charge of my mother’s brows and she has one normal and one wonky-ass brow (which my sister inherited); hers are a lot more sparse and challenging.
January 14, 2021 at 12:41 pm #1004030I’m loving all the makeup tips/recommendations! And also the section on moisturizers. I think @Copa mentioned a dermatologist she followed on youtube – I watched a couple of her videos which gave some great suggestions. I still haven’t found my perfect moisturizer and at 45 with really dry skin, in a dry climate at a mile elevation I really really need some good stuff. I plan on trying some of those recommendations soon.
As I’ve gotten older I also quit wearing as much makeup. I did love playing around in my 20’s to mid 30’s but got really lazy with it since then.
