I’m using the same thing you are, Moneypenny – tretinoin, 0.025%. I haven’t experienced any side effects from it so far (it’s been four weeks). Depending on how things go, I might be interested in trying the next higher dose.
October 26, 2023 at 12:32 pm #1126400@Copa, Nobody ever warned me either!
@Wendy, That’s great! I’m hoping I’ll keep noticing little changes as time passes. After my previous experience with too-harsh products I’m happy to stay with something low-dose as long as it does something. I have heard from so many people it’s a holy grail of anti-aging, but I guess we’ll have to see how it goes. I hope you update us as time passes! This is super random, but has anyone ever broken up with an SO over snoring? I’m currently on a trip with my mom and sister and omg my sister’s snoring. I can’t. I have ear plugs in and I’m still waking up every night from how loud it is. So I’m awake and exhausted and dreading the nights we have left sharing hotel rooms and thinking if I’d ever started dating someone who snores like this, it’d have been game over no matter how much I liked them. The bf snores a bit but it’s easily managed.
On a vaguely related note, am really loving the PillowtalkDerm Depuffer for travel. When I’m tired, I wake up puffy and it’s compounded on vacation by things like jetlag, schedule changes, diet changes/my sodium-loving jawline. It’s really helping my “travel face.”
No, I probably wouldn’t be able to get into a relationship with a snorer. I have too many lifelong issues with sleep. If my spouse started snoring like that after we were together, I’d have them get checked out and look into all possible solutions. If nothing else worked, I think we’d have to sleep in separate rooms, but that would suck on vacation. Once I had to share a room with my aunt who’s a heavy snorer and I literally did not sleep at all. I think the next night I slept on a cot or the floor in my parents room because all the other rooms were taken.
November 3, 2023 at 7:32 am #1126479Unrelated to anything, but since some of you are around my age, you might relate: perimenopause has been kicking my ass, and among some of the unpleasant symptoms I’ve had that I only just realized is related to perimenopause, I’ve been having recurrent UTIs. I’ve had four in the past 12 months that required antibiotics, and one of those even became a kidney infection that nearly got my hospitalized. Even when I don’t have symptoms, at-home tests and the tests I get through this clinical trial I’m doing for alopecia meds always show bacteria that suggest a brewing UTI.
Anyway, I saw my primary care dr about it this week and she prescribed estrogen cream for me to take, so I just started that. Anyone else on it, and has it been a good thing for you? At the very least, I hope it reduces the frequency of these UTIs, but if it can help with some of the other symptoms that plummeting estrogen in perimenopause as led to for me (like sleep issues, night sweats, belly fat, dry hair and skin, and mood swings), I would be thrilled.
AnonymousseNovember 3, 2023 at 9:08 am #1126485Copa, I might be too late but you could download a white noise app and blast that and hope it drowns it out in addition to the earplugs. I had such anxiety about any sound my kids made when they were babies, I wouldn’t sleep until I caved and got a white noise machine and for some reason I need earplugs, so that’s how I sleep every night. I can go without and do, but if I have white noise and an ear plug, I can pass out anytime in my darkened bedroom. Unfortunately, I am the snorer. I never knew until my husband. He snores sometimes but not like what you’re describing.
Once in elementary school, I slept over at a friends house. We’re sleeping in her living room, and her dad was snoring so loudly in a bedroom far away, that I stopped breathing for a minute or two to see if it was me making the sound! I could not believe how loud it was and everyone else slept soundly.
AnonymousseNovember 3, 2023 at 9:21 am #1126487Wendy, I want to hear what you experience. I went for an exam, which I hadn’t had in awhile (since before the pandemic!) and I asked about the bc pill I am on, a low dose. My doctor told me that I might go through menopause and not know it if I stay on the pill. I’ve always been curious about hormones and how they can help your moods, and with metabolism, etc. it interests me. I know everyone is different, too. I was considering going off the pill and the Dr. was like, why change anything if nothing is going badly? I went on it because my hormones were driving me insane. I would get such bad cramps and mood swings. So, I’m still on the pill.
I think I’m just starting my perimenopause journey. I’ve asked my friends about it, some of which are a few years older than me, and they kind of shrug. Wendy, you’re the only person I know who openly talks about it, so thank you.
Right now my only real symptom is hot flashes. I’m not even sure they’re that? But a lot of nights, I get so, so hot. My body feels like an inferno. So I’m guessing it’s the beginning? I even mentioned to my primary care physician this year and she basically shrugged it off too. Maybe I’ll have better luck w/ my gyno.
Please keep us updated! I truly appreciate how open you are.
Oh, @anonymousse, I have an IUD (Mirena). I had super bad periods. Cramps that made me throw up. Blood clots came out the size of ping pong balls, causing anemia. I’d go through a super tampon in 45 minutes. The IUD helped. My gyno said that many of her patients will keep it through menopause because it greatly helps w/ symptoms. I only mention this since you’re making the choice whether to continue w/ BC.
They husband finally got a vasectomy last year, but I’m still staying on it, probably through menopause.
LisforLeslieNovember 3, 2023 at 11:23 am #1126490Count me amongst the perimenopausal. @ktfran – yes those are hot flashes. I haven’t been getting them at night but I’ll be in the middle of a meeting and it feels like I’m in a sunbeam (does anyone remember the final scene of Real Genius with Val Kilmer? it’s like that). I can’t take hormones, I had a pulmonary embolism when I was on the pill after 35 so hormones are not an option for me.
My worst symptoms are just overactive senses. My skin is extra sensitive and my sense of smell – oof. The other day I got a whiff of some bug spray I had used more than a week before.
Also, don’t discount cranberries to help with UTIs, it doesn’t cure the cause, but it can reduce infections because the bacteria can’t adhere.
