Welp, I finally got Covid. Positive test on the 26th. I had gotten my booster on the 8th. Motherfucker this has been a rough ride. I completed a Paxlovid pack. My head still hurts and my cough is dissipating but likes to pop in and out through the day. I sound as if I’ve been on a diet of whiskey and Marlboro’s for the last 40 years.
I think I can say with relative confidence that had I gotten this pre-vaccination, I would have likely ended up in the hospital or dead.
Oh no! I’m sorry you’re sick and that it has been rough for you, @LisforLeslie. Sounds like you’re on the upswing now, and I hope you feel better and better each day.
I have yet to catch it (that I know of). I caught a nasty cold/flu right around Thanksgiving and went to the doctor a couple weeks later, when my most obnoxious symptom (muted hearing) had not improved much. Learned I had two ear infections! One of my ears is still kind of messed up even after antibiotics so I think I need to go back to the doctor. My cough is still lingering over a month out, too.
Work is blissfully dead coming back from holidays.
Anyone have any resolutions this year? I don’t, but have seen that “In/Out in 2024” trend on social media and have mentally given my in/out list a little thought. For me that so far looks like…
In in 2024:
– Thrifting
– Reading
– Walks and weight lifting
– Creative hobbies
– DeclutteringOut in 2024:
– Phone immediately before bed/on waking up (I am a doom scroller when I can’t sleep)
– Mindless consumption (of consumer goods, social media, TV, etc.)
– Hustle culture
– Scarcity mindset
– Negative body talk (something I think I will forever struggle with)January 2, 2024 at 7:19 pm #1127411So glad you’re beginning to feel a little better, Leslie! Covid can be so scary for those who get very sick. I’m glad you’re on the mend.
Copa your 2024 ins and ours sound great. I’ve shifted my thinking of a new year beginning in September around my bday and Jewish new year, but I do have a couple new themes for 2024. I’m interested in cultivating my psychic abilities and manifestation powers and healing energy. To that end, I just signed up for a reiki training workshop later this month. I’m also going to take a transcendental meditation course, and next week I’m going to talk with a psychic medium and nytimes bestselling author about tapping into our psychic abilities.
Beyond that, I plan to keep walking tons, strength training, and spending less time on social media/ my phone.
Maybe my “in” this year should be Tik Tok? Because this is the second time today I’m learning about ins/outs. I had no clue!
My big out this year would be food waste. My big in would be declutter/decorate our condo that we’ve lived in for nearly 7 years.
My favorite part of goal setting going into the new year is that it gives me something to focus on in the depths of winter. I ride the struggle bus every January and February. March is typically when I start feeling hopeful again.
@Wendy Do you think you have psychic abilities? I think that’s cool if you do. I’ve wanted to go to a psychic for the past year or so, but haven’t prioritized it. There’s one not too far from me that actually gets a lot of good reviews.TikTok actually feels like less of a cesspool to me than other forms of social media, but I think that’s because the algorithm is quite good. It knows to show me stuff like cooking videos and not teens doing awkward dances. It is my problem child app, though. I could scroll forever. I have a time limit set on it.
AnonymousseJanuary 3, 2024 at 10:40 am #1127425An illustrator, Julia Rothman, started the trend a few years ago. Then she did a more/less and it’s blown up since then. Normally I don’t really make resolutions. I’m either trying to better myself always or like, am okay with being a bit of a bump on a log in the cold months. I have been making a lot of artwork and writing and the leaps I made with my therapist in the last year have made me feel at peace.
Hope you continue to recover LisforLeslie. My brother who is a pulmonologist got it in November for the first time.
I don’t usually make resolutions because I often don’t achieve them and then I feel bad. Gretchen Rubin author/podcaster does a 24 in 24 review which has its appeals. My husband and I did do a 2023 house goals and we surprisingly achieved a number of them (eg get the fence between us and our neighbour fixed). I know my husband wants to get the bathroom renovated. The bathroom is definitely fine but it could be updated.
I’ve tried charging my phone away from bed. I stopped that but it would be good to revive that one. I like to listen to sleeping podcasts if I wake up on the middle of the night so I wasn’t sure what to do with that but I took an old phone and deleted all the apps possible except Spotify so I’m going to give that a try. I can’t delete Safari though.
My biggest vice is Reddit. I do set a limit but I don’t really follow it.
My mom is into healing energy. It’s not quite like Reiki but a similar modality. I’ve tried it a little. It’s ok but at times it can be a little unnerving on what my mom says.
January 10, 2024 at 2:58 pm #1127563Happy New Year! I hope everyone who was feeling sick is feeling better. I am still getting over a really bad cold. I still haven’t had Covid, thankfully. I like the “in” and “out” for the year idea and yours are really good @Copa! I think some of mine are similar to yours..I’m adding dropping the amount of sugar I eat and getting a coffee/latte everyday on the out for 2024. Prices for coffee have really soared and I can’t justify that anymore. Also trying to eat-in more as restaurants are also getting expensive. I’m trying to also add more stretching – mainly mobility stretching which I think will be very important as I age.
On the subject of colds, I caught a nasty one around Thanksgiving, which came with two ear infections. I’m going back to the doctor tonight after work because my right ear is still messed up.
@Rangerchic Stretching/mobility is a great goal! I always say I’m going to, never really do.We’re trying to get better at meal planning and prepping, too. I was the queen of it when I lived by myself, but since moving in with the boyfriend, we never quite got into a good groove. I’d like to make our lives a little easier, save a little on groceries, and eat fewer ultra processed foods.
ETA: Oh! And I pulled the trigger on a few Typology products — concealer, tinted serum, and tinted lip oil — and will report back though nobody has asked. Haha.

KateJanuary 10, 2024 at 7:22 pm #1127566Regarding meal prep, obvious question but have you tried Hello Fresh? We’ve been using it for years. They have like idk 20+ meals to choose from per week, a lot more variety than they used to. Is it earth-shattering, no, but it’s good and requires no thought or shopping or spending time on a weekend day prepping. And we don’t waste food because they only send what you need. I will say it’s increased somewhat in price. Used to be $59 for 3 meals for 2 ($10 per serving), but now it’s $69 and sometimes they do stuff like the meal comes with chopped chicken thighs but you can upgrade to breast. Or upgrade to brown rice instead of jasmine. Which is annoying but still, I could absolutely never find the time (or I guess willingly spend the time) looking up recipes, shopping, and prepping. Hello Fresh is my limit. My husband cooks them too, I don’t mean to sound like it’s all me. Speaking of him, he tested positive for Covid yesterday morning after having a high fever on and off for a day and a night, and now I’m waiting and testing. I feel pretty crappy like I’m coming down with or fighting something, but not actually sick or testing positive. Now he’s on paxlovid, which helped a lot but is giving him stomach issues. It definitely seems like an illness you *do not want.* We had never had it / tested positive before.
ktfranJanuary 11, 2024 at 9:37 am #1127567How are yo doing Lisforleslie? And Rangerchic? Kate, I hope you body fights it off and that your husband feels better soon.
I had that nasty cough thing before the holiday’s, where I was either choking on my own mucous or dry heaving for a few days straight. I still don’t really know what that was, but I know a few people who had it.
I usually meal prep on Sunday’s. If I don’t, we end up picking something up most nights. My meal prep is usually three to four hours, but that also includes making a big pot of soup or some other kind of lunches for the week and dinner for Sunday if we’re not eating the soup for dinner.
