Trump repeatedly sexually assaulted and harassed women. Hillary repeatedly and systematically destroyed the victims of her husband’s abuse.

Honestly? Neither seems very fit for the office.

Although — admittedly — it’s one thing to be the monster — quite another to ruthlessly defend them for the sake of both your careers.

That said — both are fucking awful.

Both are problematic. One of them is a threat to democracy.

Btw, here are the facts on that claim you just made.

Hillary Clinton didn’t vote for Trump. True. Very true.

    Instead, she got him elected.

Oh here we go again with blaming women, blaming Hillary.

Russia, the electoral college, and those who voted for him got him elected.

    Also, those who didn’t vote.

Also, it’s about to happen again, and this time Hillary is nowhere in sight.

Yawn. One day we will perhaps have candidates who take credit for both their successes and failures rather than feebly blaming everyone else.

I hope so, but I fear Trump’s party and his voters have broken democracy.

If it happens again — and I fear it very well may, it rests squarely on the shoulders of the incompetent DNC. Oh, and that doddering old fool Biden for drinking their fucking stay the course Kool-Aid.

Why the DNC? They haven’t nominated anyone yet, and Biden’s the only one in the race. It’s the voters. They had to decide that only an old white guy could win against Trump in this environment. A woman or POC had no chance. This is what’s happened to America.

    Kate —
First please stop putting words in my mouth. I never blessed or approved of those who would vote for Trump again. I certainly don’t bless them for voting for him the first time. I said that I think I understand why they voted as they did. Not at all the same as approving. If I had approved, then I would have voted for Trump myself. But, I didn’t. I campaigned against him. I convinced at least one Bernie voter that it was his civic duty to hold his nose and vote for Hillary, because Trump was so awful. I saw he was awful, but I’m a political junkie and I read liberal press sources, beyond the mainstream media.

Most voters barely follow the mainstream media, let alone look for other views. But, I can honestly tell you this: the media did not present Trump in the way we see him today. Even a year into his presidency, the dominant media view was that the better voices around him would keep him in check. Some of those voices have only begun, within the past week, to say what they really think of Trump’s behavior.

I believe in the possibility of civil redemption. Those who made a mistake and voted for Trump in 2016 may very well learn from that error and vote against him in 2020.

The Russia collusion wasn’t known on election day 2016. Comey took two shots at Clinton, but never mentioned an FBI investigation of members of the Trump campaign. It was a totally one-sided partisan smear. It’s odd that Trump dislikes Comey so much, after the man did him such a huge favor.

The 2016 election was so very close, that any of a dozen things could have thrown it in the other direction. Comey, Russia/Wikileaks (but Wikileaks was the darling of the left back then, wasn’t it, and it’s revelation of DNC cheating on Hillary’s behalf was lapped up by disgruntled Bernie supporters), Hillary not giving up on her standard neocon/corporatist approach, Hillary’s campaign encouraging her to campaign in WI, MI, WI, rather than telling her to stay away because they were safely in the big, Hillary calling out Trump when he invaded her space during the town hall debate, the press doing more fact checking of Trump and not giving infinite coverage Benghazi and Hillary’s e-mails, Bernie’s voters staying home, Hillary being caught on tape calling Trump’s supporters deplorables (first rule of politics: you can attack the opposing candidate, but you can’t attack the voters; first rule of modern politics: anything you say can appear in the evening news, opposing campaigns will send spies to your campaign stops and private fundraisers).Of course all voters have a duty to vote against a candidate who is a threat to democracy. But, in 2016 the media really didn’t portray Trump that way.

You’ve been defending these people who voted for Trump and would likely do so again (if they haven’t seen the error of their ways by now, they’re beyond hope) for 2 days. Redemption? Should have happened in 2017. Weren’t paying attention? The media wasn’t taking Trump seriously? Ok, you saw it for yourselves in the first year. Oh you didn’t? Ok, do you see it now? No? You need to be promised a job? Then you are a racist.
