All the news reports today indicate that the next few coming months will be even worse. Buckle up, everybody. We are all about to reap what we all sowed by NOT being more smart and proactive about Trump.

PS — If Fauci bitches one more time about how awful it was under Trump, I shall explode. The time to speak up was THEN! you feckless old fool.

Kate that’s so awful about your place. I can’t imagine the stress.

Bad bosses are so universal. My husband worked for a very large, but family owned & operated company. One owners son insisted on signing all the commission checks (completely unnecessary) and then took the entire month of Dec off. He was so wealthy & out of touch he didn’t realize people would need those checks to pay for Xmas

I’m terrified of what lays ahead for us. My parents have received their first shots though! I’m so glad they put in the effort to get them. Also pissed it takes that much effort

There are still a bunch of industrial dryers going 24/7 in the kitchen, plus they turned the heat on them so they’re blowing warm air. It’s incredibly loud so I can’t do zoom calls so I’m still working from the hotel. It’s also uncomfortable in there with all the dry heat blowing, and the whole place has a smell. The water coming through the floor to the ceiling was all brown and gross. The building is almost 100 years old. Yay.

@Copa, what is your job exactly? If it’s too private for forum I understand. I’m a lawyer and am curious about your law adjacent job.

My brother in healthcare got both shots. Very grateful. Here the focus is on LTC and frontline workers which I totally get. I hope my parents will be able to get vaccine soon.

Ugh that sucks Kate. Is your building manager helpful or are you on your own?

I prefer not to discuss on the forums cause it’d be super easy to find me that way, but happy to connect on social media or something to discuss if you’re curious!

My boyfriend gets his second vaccine shot on Monday. Curious if he’ll have any mild adverse symptoms. My friend’s husband had zero symptoms after his second shot, another friend’s mom had a low-grade fever and chills after hers.

And yes, with the new variant strains, I did stock up on some KN95 masks a few weeks ago. I was mostly using homemade masks from my mom before and while they have a little “pouch” to add layers and have fun designs/patterns, I overall prefer the fit of the KN95 and generally feel like I’m safe and making others safer that way.

That would be awesome, Copa! I think we are friends on My Fitness Pal. Could I message you there?

Dang I have not thought about getting the higher grade masks at all. Maybe I should get some too.

Save those hotel receipts, Kate! I’ve dealt with water drama a lot. It’s a real pain. But I can only imagine what a pain it is in the midst of a pandemic. Hang in there.

I am hilariously SO out of food. I am down to lemons, tea, pasta and one lone jar of sauce. Clearly, I need to just go to the store, but it’s all so YIKES out here lately.

Even though the State is… opening up?!

Nothing makes any sense any more. Nothing.

Kate, so sorry you’re dealing with this. We had to deal with water damage during hurricane Sandy and it’s so insidious…make SURE everything’s dried out so you don’t have mold issues. And the only answer to “it’s no one’s fault” is “we’ll let the insurance companies figure it out.” Your insurance company won’t want to pay for anything and they’ll go after hers. Save all receipts, etc, etc. And you might be surprised what’s covered — meals out, extra transportation, spoiled food, etc. Document all conversations, with first and last names, times, and dates. We saved a fortune because we were able to prove we’d done something when a contractor said we hadn’t. It’s awful, but it will be okay. And most importantly, trust NO ONE.

@hfantods Just messaged you on MFP!

They’re going to tear down an old building across the street from us to build new condos and I’m not looking forward to that project starting. I assume it’ll be in the spring/summer and that I’ll be WFH with obnoxious construction in the background day in and day out.

    Thanks everyone for the tips!

Now they’ve sealed the entrances to the kitchen with plastic so it will dry faster. They’re concerned about the ceiling but think the walls may be ok.

Well, despite having the 1b letter for the shot, the Rollout here in Chicago is so slow that it may be months. I emailed a tip to the suburban newspaper to try to get a vaccine story for my 90 year old gramma.. something like multigenerational vaccine.. me, her, my aunt and my son via breast milk. We will see if that leads anywhere. (We are all eligible)

Also, just found another raised mole/spot on my shoulder. Thankfully my next derm appointment is within a month but I hate the waiting game of “is it or isn’t it.”

Maternity leave is almost over and then back to the rat race. I’m so so sad this time around.

Uhh, yeah, I’ve read/heard on the news that Illinois is one of the worst states for vaccine rollout so far. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve checked Chicago’s public health website for vaccine info, but they had next to no information last I checked. I’m not expecting to get vaccinated for months still, but was hoping for… well, any amount of information really. Cook County outside of Chicago had more information and a form to fill out for updates/information. We had nothing.

Not sure if I mentioned this here, but my dad actually participated in a vaccine trial. He found out at the beginning of the month that he did receive the vaccine, not the placebo, last October-ish. So that’s great! My mom still needs to get hers but I’m not sure how it’s going. I have a friend in the same city/state my parents live in who has stepped in to get her older relatives get vaccine appointments. Her grandma recommended her services to all her friends so now she’s very popular with her grandma’s crowd. Unsure the process, but I think it requires being quick online, so maybe I’ll ask my mom if she wants me to step in. I’ve gotten my preferred reservation times at ridiculous Chicago hotspot restaurants so I feel like I’m equipped to nab COVID vaccine appointments.
