I’m not sure that follows, Fyodor. Another month of vaccinations is significant and we’ve been doing better than Britain in vaccination rates. I have a relative who is a school classroom worker in the equivalent of a high school, and she won’t get her first Covid shot for a couple more weeks. In general Britain has greatly delayed shot #2.

Ron, we have 41 percent of the population fully vaccinated and the UK has 37. They also have a much higher percentage with at least one dose than we do.

    https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations

They also still have significant non pharmaceutical interventions (closed bars, restaurant capacity, etc) in place that we do not. In this environment their cases are going up 50 percent week over week.

In terms of “another month” we are only having only four or five hundred thousand new people getting vaccinated each day (About 1 percent of the population per week). Most of what we’re seeing in the daily dose numbers is second doses (corresponding to higher first doses from a month ago). And even that first doses number is probably temporarily elevated by the short burst of 12-15s who just got authorized.

    Hah! Right, Hazel?! It’s maddening.

Late last night, I fled to the desert house for a few days of a mental health escape break. I’ll putter about the yard a bit and deep water everything. The “Planted Desert” is doing great. Better than me, actually. ?

Last time I was out here, I painted two accent walls a nice turquoise… (one in the kitchen, one in the living room.) So it’s gonna be awfully nice this trip to just enjoy the place I created. For someone else.

Honestly? I don’t know where I stand on masks. Truth? Masks cause me a lot of issues. A lot of drama. I dutifully have worn them all through out and believe they have worked… Yay masks!! But damn! They are such a headache with my glasses often fogging up like crazy (think every 1 out of two times… I think it has to do with humudity or air temp.) Oh, yeah and then they fall off much easier due to how mask straps often pull my ears forward. My glasses wanna fall off every time I look down. I now catch them like a total pro.
But yeah… If the CDC and state of California both say I can go without, I’ll probably embrace that.

I do wish everybody would just get vaccinated. That many won’t is —- frankly, rather annoying.

I find people who won’t get vaccinated infuriating. Here in Florida just about everyone is vaccinated now and they are slowly but surely reducing mask usage. But not everyone is getting vaccinated. There are hold outs. In the gated community, most people are still sitting outside to eat at the club, but it’s getting hot hot hot so people will be moving indoors and masks are no longer required. I expect the servers and staff will wear masks because they can’t be sure someone is vaccinated.

If you are a family member you are permitted to go to the club if you show evidence of vaccination. I had to take a picture of my vaccination card and submit it. So members can be unvaccinated, but guests can’t. But that also means that unvaccinated people can give their friends/neighbors COVID and then they can give it to their young grandchildren/great grandchildren if they are not careful.

I stand by my position: If you are able to get vaccinated and choose not to, you are denying science and are entitled to no science. Please leave your home, computer, phone, car, clothing and pretty much everything but hand thrown crockery and go live in the woods.

@cleo, saw a CTV news article that AB doesn’t have enough people with first doses for Stage 3 opening up. I mean yeah, opening up should be enough incentive for vaccines.

My parents moved up their second dose by a month. I’m optimistic I can move up my dose soon too. Come on two dose summer!

So we’re what? Not quite a year-and-a-half into WFH? Today I had my first slip-up with getting up with my camera on and revealed I only get dressed from the waist up. A few coworkers saw my leggings, which I know shouldn’t be a big deal, but I feel a bit embarrassed. It was a Zoom that we eventually opened up to quite a few people outside the organization so I’m glad it happened before the bigger meeting.

That doesn’t seem like an issue at all. I wouldn’t blink an eye at leggings and I work at an investment company that’s dressy in normal times.

I don’t think that’s a big deal at all! How dressed up were you — blazer and top? It’d be uncomfortable to wear real pants at home…

I’m wearing a nice blouse and my hair/make-up is done, which is my norm for any days I am on camera. I didn’t bother with a blazer today cause I get warm sitting in a room with skylights. My boss and a couple other coworkers were in suits (at least on top), which I would’ve worn had this been an in-person meeting. I noticed another coworker joined the meeting in a very casual t-shirt, turned his camera off, and when he came back he had thrown on some kind of pullover. I know I’m not the only one who gets dressed from the waist up only — I’ve seen an older male coworker’s pajama pants at this point — but I still felt kind of embarrassed. Our executive director wasn’t on yet when this happened but he’s commented on my work attire in the past (never to say I’m dressed inappropriately, but very weird and tiresome commentary) so I feel under scrutiny for what I wear to work meetings… even via Zoom.

Ugh. I’m sorry, but what the hell with this guy making comments about your clothes.

Fwiw I wear ripped jorts on the bottom every day in summer if I’m not wearing a rental dress.

Yeah, that is weird and not cool re the director. I understand why you’d feel embarrassed but it’s ok.
