Ugh. Masks mandates and vacc card at restaurant mandates are being lifted in Chicago next Monday. Not cool.
You only have to wear a mask on public transit and in medical centers. Oh, and they’ll still be required at schools.
I’ll still wear my mask. And I’ll probably always wear it while traveling.
Yeah, I’m curious if my work will be setting a return to office date in light of changing guidance here. The courts are also dropping mask mandates and we work closely with them. My company has punted several times on a date to return to work in a hybrid capacity. At this point I prefer to wait until it’s warm.
ETA: It took almost two years but I’m finally accustomed to WFH. I think I’ll like a hybrid model, but I think the transition back will be a little rough for me.

February 23, 2022 at 10:40 am #1102834Guys, there is a right wing group “Moms for liberty” (founded basically to fight mask mandates in schools) and now our local chapter is complaining that we have holidays off that aren’t Christian holidays. Like they are actively complaining that Jewish and Muslim holidays are marked as days off for the calendar next school year. Asking how many of “these” students we actually have in our school district.
This is not where I thought we’d be as a society in 2022. Also I think it’s sickly hilarious that they call themselves the moms of liberty and they are trying to take away other people’s freedom. If you don’t vote in local elections, school board, etc I really encourage you to do what you can to stop the rampant racism and fascism blooming.
THIS!! “If you don’t vote in local elections, school board, etc I really encourage you to do what you can to stop the rampant racism and fascism blooming.”
I could easily argue that local and state elections are just as or even more important than national elections.
Another reason it’s crazy to lift mask mandates in Chicago next week… St. Pat’s day is just around the corner and people get effing crazy here. With things lifting, I can’t imagine how it will be. YUCK.
HelenFebruary 23, 2022 at 4:06 pm #1102839The Superintendent of my school (R) just voted to do away with the No Time For Hate program because it’s indoctrination and political. Wtf. A natzi arm band was found at a middle school and he brushed it off. Said that we have speed limits, and he advocates for the speed limit, but people will still speed. So he’s not doing anything about the rising antisemitism in our schools. He really compared natzies with speeders. He keeps getting voted in because he runs as a republican here in the deep south. He falls asleep in meetings and his racism is on full display. He refuses to let anyone talk at meetings who want to address racism. We have a member of the schoolboard who is thoughtful and makes recommendations based on science. He has a PHD in education, but he can’t secure the Superintendent position because he’s a Democrat. Not sure why schoolboard positions even have a political party. Dr Jana Howard would be an amazing leader for our schools. Voting local matters!!
LucidityFebruary 24, 2022 at 6:47 pm #1102860Ew, Anonymousse, that’s so gross. I hope you or someone else asks these moms about the disconnect between their name and actions, but it sounds like the kind of liberty they want is the freedom from having to be “politically correct” and “tolerant.”

They are a nationwide group.
See if they are in your community.February 27, 2022 at 3:55 pm #1102934Just curious: how many of you all are returning to the office more formally/regularly either now, or soon?
We had “connect weeks” that started last summer – voluntary re-entry – but stopped pretty quickly due to Delta. My company is very serious about risk levels and protocols and working with experts and I think the government too. The program started up again in late fall, and my team went in twice, literally 2 days, then it got paused again due to omicron. It started up again last week and we’re planning to go in Tuesday and Thursday this week.
But again, it’s only voluntary and no one is going in every day or even close. I don’t think we’ll ever go back to like it used to be. We need to figure out some hybrid way of working that’s actually effective. My company takes feedback and seems to be trying to come up with something flexible and workable. But yeah, no one wants to go back full time. I think many would prefer to be all remote. I am fine with going in once or twice a week.
Oh and! My boss hired this person she’s worked with in the past, who gave us major red flags in our interviews, but she said she was willing to take the risk. Turns out they’re an anti-vaxxer (my friend heard through the grapevine and their FB backs it up), but I don’t think my boss knows. According to the protocols for the Boston risk level, they have to wear a mask. It will be very interesting to see if they do. We all were required to submit our vaccination status online.
