I’m still hanging in there. If I lie perfectly still I’m fine. If I attempt to do anything, even talk, I can’t breathe. So I’m just laying here willing myself to get better. So fucking bitter that I took this shit seriously from the beginning and am so sick, meanwhile trumpers are planning church revivals. If I had the ability I would show up to them all. I feel so useless during this crisis. The only thing I can do is click and watch the adds on this site. Does that help make money? I’m so not tech savvy
April 3, 2020 at 7:43 am #879619Helen! Thank you for keeping us updated. We’re very worried about you. Will you consider calling an ambulance and going to the ER? I am sending all the energy for a speedy recovery your way!
As for ads on this site, please don’t worry about that. They aren’t making any money right now anyway (companies have slashed or paused their ad budgets to almost nothing, understandably) and I’d have my ad network remove them if I didn’t worry about that jeopardizing my standing with them. As it is, I probably need to start posting again soon so I don’t get booted but I just don’t have the emotional bandwidth right now.
Anyway, Helen, please get better! We’re thinking about you.
Eek. Both my boss and my husband’s boss have asked us to go to the convention center for our project work. Me to document since I’m in marketing. Him to do real project work. His is more essential. We told both of them we’d think about it. I really don’t want to, but I also want to be a team player. Ugh.
Our company is helping making it an emergency hospital.
EDT. The biggest problem for me is getting there. We don’t own a car and I refuse to take cabs or rideshare right now. I’d feel safer on a bus because I know they’re cleaning and honestly, nobody is on them right now.
Wendy – I know you’re fried right now – would you consider guest essays? Like you’ve done in the past? Posts from readers or guests? Reader recommendations? That way you just have to do some editing and throw it up there (presumably?). I’d be happy to bang out an essay about crisis wedding planning in a pandemic and throwing something together in four days!
Maybe the community could help you keep the site going? What do you think?
Congrats on the job, @TheLadyE! That has to feel so good right now.
@Helen Yes, another person chiming in to say you need to go to the hospital or at least call your doctor.
@ktfran I have taken the bus/el maybe three or four times total in the past three weeks out of necessity. I have felt fine on them, actually. They’re empty. I bring my wipes everywhere, so I’ll wipe down the pole I’m going to grab and keep my wipe as a barrier between my hand and the pole the entire time. Then wash or sanitize hands as soon as I’m able after getting off. If you guys do end up going to McCormick, good luck!LisforLeslieApril 3, 2020 at 9:41 am #879627@Helen – if you can’t breathe – get to the ER. At a minimum, they should be able to give you oxygen. If you are passing out from lack of breathing – get to the ER. If you are gasping, get to the ER.
But if it’s just hard and painful, do what you can to relax and maybe wait a bit; don’t (literally) kill yourself to avoid the hospital.
@Ktfran – mask and gloves will significantly reduce your chance of exposure – because you will limit the amount of face touching you do. city buses without soft surfaces are likely safe(ish). Just keep the mask and gloves on. -
