@materialsgirl, it helped me. Tremendously. I didn’t want her to ever leave. I mean, as I said, I feel like a hypocrite but at the same time, I’m not out and about completely disregarding the rules. It’s a very fine line. And it’s also something that I won’t attempt again for two+ weeks just in case we failed and one of us gets sick.
ETA: I wanted to embrace her so, so much. We didn’t. Obviously. That was the hardest part.
May 13, 2020 at 3:29 pm #885881@ktfran.. i’m jealous it sounds sooo nice. I don’t really think you’re a hypocrite. You’re following the rules. Now you’ve got me thinking who I can run up to go and wave/shout at.
I’m putting together some packages for family to open. I sent a box off to my sister and niece (a BoySmells candle, facemask (moisturizing kind not the health kind), sidewalk chalk and lightup balls) last week. Thinking of ideas for my inlaws now. Getting Manny’s Deli for dinner tonight so we might pick up some of their bulk candy and cookies to throw in.
I find myself not wanting any sort of zoom/facetime anything. I just want a real person.
Good news though.. My genetic tests all came back okay. that would have been a super shitty thing to add on otherwise
May 13, 2020 at 4:16 pm #885891I have gone on two socially distanced dates with the same person in the last couple week. I avoided public transit by biking or walking to both parks, and we maintained social distancing as well. Although this is the longest time I have been talking/going out with a person and not been physically intimate with them in some way yet. Strange time to be dating.
Friends I have still not seen, although after the long weekend I may be okay depending on how things roll out with more things planned to open here in the province.
I’m on a MacBook for work and it doesn’t have any ports. Like, I have two charger holes and a headphone jack only. Can’t even plug my phone in. I know this probably sounds silly but tech hardware is not my strong suit and I have very little desire to research what kind of adapter or dongle or whatever I’d need to make my at-home double screen dreams come true.
May 13, 2020 at 4:36 pm #885894@Copa haha honestly it is such a money grab with most tech companies these days. When iPhone removed the headphone jack it was purely to force people to get wireless earbuds, which are supa expensive.
You would need to get a dongle to add on more ports for your various items. Everything changes so often hopefully you don’t miss the next hardware update 😛
I bought a Garmin watch that allows you to connect to music, so I started downloading music, and then tried pairing my wireless/bluetooth earphones. What happened? I couldn’t, the garmin watch is only compatible with the next generation of earbuds I have!! GAH. So that would mean I need to buy a second pair just to pair with the watch. $$$ I started using my old ipod shuffle again when I can’t bring my phone with me to run instead.
I hate Apple and spending money on their products, even though I have an iPhone. Like I think it’s so stupid that I can’t even charge my phone with my computer anymore. My parents were ready to ship me a spare monitor and I told them about the port situation and my dad didn’t believe that Apple had done away with standard ports.
I have my eye on a kinda pricey Garmin right now. I have an older, basic model that works fine for running and I dug it out for quarantine to help me stay active and for runs. But it’s ugly, and I want one of their more stylish hybrid watches for when I don’t want a chunky sports watch on my wrist. (As if it matters what’s on my wrist when I’m at home all the time? HA!) I haven’t been online shopping much at all the past two months but this watch might be the thing I cave on. It might be a birthday present to myself.
May 13, 2020 at 4:52 pm #885896haha I hear ya! I did a lot of shopping for mine, as I really wanted something for my running but could wear day to day. I do recommend the Garmin 245 music, I have it with music storage and connection, but of course be sure to check what earphones you have and if they connect.
The 645 seems to be the next generation of it, and does look sleeker.
Oooh ooh! Let me help you! Look at this page and tell me which ports you have and I’ll find you a compatible monitor or dongle.
May 13, 2020 at 4:55 pm #885898Fyodor, I would be surprised if the trajectory in nyc could be close to replicated anywhere else. We had such a huge peak to come down from, for one thing, and the kind of behavior we changed – like a 90% reduction in subway ridership – isn’t something that could be done on a similar scale anywhere else. New Yorkers are just so communal that staying home makes a bigger difference here than it possibly could anywhere else. It also means we are likely to have much faster outbreaks than anywhere else when we start re-opening. I have a hard time imagining what a re-open even looks like here if we want to avoid a repeat of April.
@Fydoor I believe I have two Thunderbolt 3 ports. If you enjoy this kind of stuff, I’m definitely all ears! Thanks!
@Cleo I think I have a Forerunner 35 from maybe… 2015 or 2016? I don’t even think they make this model of Forerunner anymore. It’s been a great running watch for a newer, not-super-serious runner. I love all the data, I love that it still works. I wasn’t even looking for a new one but went onto the Garmin website to see if they had different strap colors for mine… aaand now I want the vivomove style for day-to-day, when I’m not running (since I don’t think it’s designed for that). I had no idea they were making hybrid watches these days! It’s on sale but still pricey.
