Alright, is it creepy to call the HR manager’s cell phone?
I was invited for interview two by e-mail. I responded by e-mail and it occurred to me AFTER I sent it that my correspondence probably won’t go through again. Because this job would be based out of the regional office, my interview NEEDS to be this Thursday — that’s when the higher-ups based out of their main offices will be in town for interviews. So they’re not giving me much notice, but the times they have available are fine and I can manage it. So I’ve responded by e-mail (which is probably lost in cyberspace, AND I called the HR manager’s direct line (twice) and no one answers. I want to get a hold of her ASAP to nail down a time. I called their main line to see if she’s in today, and was told all they can do is transfer me. The last time we were scheduling interviews, I called first then e-mailed, and her response to my e-mail was something like “Oh, glad you e-mailed — I’m working from home today” — which makes me wonder when she’ll hear my voicemail.
She gave me her cell phone number last week knowing that it was tough for me to carve out the time to meet them, and told me to feel free to call or text if I had any interview-day issues.
I don’t want to overstep, but good grief, it should not be this hard.
I think it’s ok, she gave you her cell #, and time is tight for scheduling.
I used to get an email alert that someone left me a vm on my desk phone, but that stopped a while back and now I never know if I have messages on the desk phone or not. She probably doesn’t either.
Just sound friendly with a smile in your voice when you get her or leave a message on her cell and keep it brief.
I only sent one e-mail. In my limited experience e-mailing this woman, though, she’s been fast to respond. SO, I’m assuming it didn’t go through again. (The last bounceback e-mail took days to receive.) I agree that text is invasive, but truly don’t know what to do. The other options I can think of are:
– Send an email from an old school account that still works and explain why I’m following up with a different account
– Call the other guy I met last week (he’s not in HR, but has at least met me and presumably liked me), explain to him what’s going on and ask if he can ask HR to call meTheir main offices close in 30 minutes and I feel like I’m running out of time. I’d rather not wait until tomorrow morning.
Alright the dramatic conclusion: FINALLY got a hold of the manager at her office. It turns out they were doing some construction(?) work in the office late last week and over the weekend that required all electricity to be shut off. My e-mail was bounced back because of that, and not because my email has been blacklisted. She did get my e-mail earlier today, but was busy. So I apologized for the aggressive follow up, and she was understanding. Ha.
Phew!
I have two different companies that have gone from external recruiter to phone interview to in-person with hiring manager. In one case I met with CEO also and next step is to meet the people I’d be managing. In the other case I’m going to meet the CEO this week. It’s a lot of work!!! Having a motivated external recruiter involved really helps though.
