@Originalusername the second you said the higher ups liked to say you were all family I was like *ding ding ding!* middle square on the dysfunctional workplace card. All the worst ones say that because they think it gives them enough familiarity to treat you like crap. You’re too good for them, honestly.

@MissMJ I hope your dog is ok. As Kate said these things usually appear almost overnight, especially in older animals so don’t beat yourself up.

@Bethany The job I was doing will no longer exist so yeah it has to be made redundant. I’m generally positive I’ll get one of the new ones and I hope I do as it’s more money. If I’m unsuccessful I’ll then be given a redundancy package (which people could opt for anyway if they didn’t want one of the new jobs). The new jobs have enough difference in the PD that they can be classed as a separate one.

Australia generally has pretty good worker protections for full time, they can’t just sack you because they feel like it or they’re out of cash. I’ve had a few companies run out of money so they’ve got rid of entire departments but that always comes with a redundancy package. I’m sure there are dodgy operators out there that don’t follow the rules but that’s how it’s supposed to work.

It’s a whole saga Wendy it’s been so irritating. The agency is in NZ and they run worldwide trips so I’m sure they have a lot going on but there has been no communication at all about what the plan is. If it ends up being no refund I’d be fine with that but I haven’t heard a thing either way. I can’t really approach my insurer yet because I don’t know what’s happening but the trip was meant to be happening soon so I’m sure I’m running out of time with my policy. I blasted them on Facebook the other day and they came running to messenger, I felt like such a Karen but I was sick of my emails being ignored.

ETA I bought insurance before the pandemic so thankfully I’m covered there.

Even over here I’ve given up on the birthday party I had planned for October. I really don’t think we’ll be allowed to travel interstate by then and even if we were I doubt I’d be able to have much of a party. The venue said at the start I’d be able to get my deposit back if it’s cancelled but even then it’s only $200, I can afford that.

Now my travel agent for my cancelled Hawaii trip THAT’S another story. They have held $2000 USD of mine since May and still no word on what’s happening with it.

FWIW even if Trump loses somehow the genie is out of the bottle. America’s international reputation is fucked and I doubt too many people who have felt vindicated in their open racism by this presidency are going to go away quietly.

@Fyodor we have a long and storied history of reminding our pollies they aren’t any better than us: https://youtu.be/cEst7PHFZ7A

But at the same time we love it when they’re one of us. This is one of our former prime ministers at a cricket game. He held a beer skulling record for years: https://youtu.be/o5mBShX9fdU

Otherwise I saw the footage of that poor older man being shoved to the ground and the police just leaving him there, sickening. And the whole taskforce has stood down in protest of the suspension of the guys that did it?! The system is so horrifically broken.

I would like to compare Trump’s people gassing and attacking protesters so he could go on a nice walk and hold a bible upside down to our prime minister being told to get off someone’s lawn and complying with an apology:

Testimony from the rector of the church Trump decided to pose at about how peaceful protesters were treated. They were literally driven away and injured so Trump could stand there with a bible. I hate that man so much:https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10157575422089624&id=530944623

I saw Proud Boys showing up at one protest throwing white power signs. I’m sure they’re not the majority but there is definitely an element of undesirables using the protests as leverage, a chance to cause chaos, whatever. Either way I still support the protests 100% and I think if police were better at dealing with them there would be a lot less rioting.

The sheriff from Flint so easily demonstrated how you could turn things around and keep them safe, it’s almost embarrassing. I wish there were more like him.

I’ve been watching a lot of social media about this whole thing, I’m not usually a conspiracy type but I do think it’s really odd how many of the instigators are white and wearing potentially identifying gear like arm bands. Plus that guy that broke the windows who was wearing police issue riot gear and mask. As it is the protests seem to start peacefully until the police arrive and start gassing everyone so I’m genuinely a bit suspicious about the end game here. I’m sure a lot of it is just dickheads coming in from elsewhere to steal shit but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an attempt to discredit the whole movement using undercover operatives.

I’m so glad it’s Mr Sass! I wonder if it’s help for him to have a safe bolthole near the house if he’s coming to hang out. Something with a door only big enough for him
