ugh speaking of misinformation, anyone hear about a guy named Shawn Model? He is some social media guru/celeb/influencer whatever and a friend on FB got a hold of one of his videos and posts about COVID and how because studies are showing that COVID is not transmitted by the airborne route, we should question the need for masks etc.
I got a hold of the papers he quoted and found that he not only cherry picked statements and information from the article, but that he was misrepresenting the findings of the articles as a result. Although they have shown COVID is most likely not contracted through airborne transmission (ie being more than 2m away from infected persons, and typically in a well ventilated room), you still catch COVID through close encounters with people. So instead of stating that, he just full stops and proceeds to support people who are stating that he is wonderful, thanks for explaining and cutting through it all, that they knew masks were useless yadda yadda. When all the studies still recommend that if you cannot maintain safe physical distancing masks should be used (because COVID is transmitted through aerosol droplets etc), they are effective enough/better than nothing, and proper hand hygiene should be used as well.
Well. I went to his IG to call him out stating that there is misinformation and he is not presenting the full reports and their findings. I got blocked and my comments and thread with others discussing it deleted.
This is the reality. These social media influencers are using their platform to spread misinformation and when called out they just delete and make their pages look like they are not getting any flack. I knew it happened, just didn’t think it would happen to me. Ugh, grinds my gears!
November 12, 2020 at 12:25 pm #964328best of luck MG, my cousin had her first baby this year in March/April and they said they kept it very swift and fast the time she was there to avoid her in the hospital for too long. She had no complications luckily so it worked out.
November 12, 2020 at 12:22 pm #964327trust me once I am out of school and in a more secure location work wise I fully intend to invest in my own garage gym. I do like the idea of not having to share equipment and wait around for people. Also, no commute!
I did attend a couple PT sessions this summer due to a foot and shoulder injury that had been persisting. I also got a massage recently due to some pain and discomfort while weight lifting in my lower back.
November 11, 2020 at 2:15 pm #964282it is very true, aerosol spreading of the virus is definitely the main way it spreads. I think I am just grateful that the equipment is getting cleaned more often than not (compared to before which was not at all unless someone was kind enough to wipe down after using). The bus system here is actually doing a pilot project where they have painted on copper to various touch points on transit to see how well it works as an antimicrobial material. Scientists know copper works already, but they want to see if it can work well enough to use in public places like that.
As much as I know touching surfaces and then your face is the lesser method of spreading COVID, it is nice to know surfaces are being cleaned more often, or using materials that may reduce the spread of other germs.
I think out of all the things I do the gym is the most risky just because not everyone wears masks. I did go without for a few months this summer, and unfortunately my workout equipment is pretty limited at this point. So I am happy with my own precautions to keep going as long as I can. I am sure there will be a point when it will shut down again, but at this time it seems the hot spots for super spreaders are in spaces where group fitness was occurring, and other indoor group venues, hence why the province requested a short term lockdown for us in those spaces.
November 11, 2020 at 12:46 am #964250Most gyms here in BC opened mid summer, they didn’t require masks, but now that things are spiking again (up to 500 cases plus per day now), seeing more people wearing them at the gym I go to is more common. I personally didn’t wear them at the gym (but all other places) because social distancing was in place, and the gym has been really good with cleaning and making sure areas are spaced out, but even then it was a tad sketchy.
I am wearing them now though because things are getting worse daily.
I always go for bailey’s and hot chocolate as my go to winter drink 😛
October 7, 2020 at 11:20 am #963001@hfantods I can’t recall, are you and your BF planning on moving in soon together?
@veritek33 wooo 1st trimester! Thoughts out there for a healthy 2nd trimester 😀August 25, 2020 at 1:07 pm #961512@Veritek33 CONGRATS 😀 It sounds early, but that is super exciting, keep us posted!
My friends BF just finished his PhD, he defended successfully yesterday after multiple go backs this summer. They are planning a small get away to a cottage to celebrate later in September, as they originally planned to go to Europe.
Things ended with the guy I was seeing, he asked to talk after I asked about what was happening with us and he basically said this job he is on is looking to be extended and he will have long days and unpredictable weekends. So he felt to be fair to me that we end it as he won’t be able to commit the time needed to sustain dating. So that sucks. Will take a break now, things aren’t getting all that better here in BC, although multiple places are demanding mask usage (transit and some big box stores), numbers keep going up. I only hope the winter will isolate people more and reduce the spread through gatherings.
August 23, 2020 at 1:01 pm #961407@DearWendy it was in the province of Ontario, and I think they used a loophole, currently the province has restricted it to 50 people per event room, so if the banquet hall opened up 3 rooms, technically they can have 150 people spread across those three rooms without going over the limit. So I assume that was what was done to accommodate.
August 22, 2020 at 1:32 pm #961363I am very fortunate I was able to get my money back for my trip that was planned to Central America, unfortunately my money is still held up with two flight companies for the trip I had planned in May to visit home in Ontario.
My friend just attended her friends wedding this week, she had 150 guests and apparently no plan for masks? We are trying to plan a skype call to catch and up and curious to hear how the logistics were the day of. Ironically enough the bride is a nurse…
August 18, 2020 at 2:58 pm #961127@MaterialsGirl, that is exactly what I am planning at the moment. If I don’t hear back from him by Thursday evening I am going to message and explain.
I guess I am second guessing myself as well as I don’t want to be a dick and sound like I am expecting too much despite his work situation and typical dating etiquette. I like your wording though in how he may have a different mindset of how the 6 weeks would proceed, versus me.
August 18, 2020 at 2:34 pm #961125@veritek33 understandable, with how things are going since the US brought school sessions back, and even how Canada is coping with the slow uptick in cases with us 20-40 somethings, i think a lot of things will continue to be postponed.
Ugh, as you said, best to not try and plan as a means to avoid disappointment!
August 18, 2020 at 2:29 pm #961123@hfantods my brother is also compromised, for the same reason (Crohns). He has generally been able to to isolate because he lives out of town from the rest of the family in Ontario, but still works for my mom who has a gardening business. Figures, if he works that is the best job as it is outside and you can distance much better compared to retail or food services.
Also, he managed to get disability pay from the government because he can’t work normal jobs at the same capacity, and as a student it applies as well. So bonus!
@TheLadyE, he is busy during the week and is stressed right now. So I totally empathize and understand that component. He told me he wouldn’t be available in the evenings during the week for 6 weeks due to the job, not that he wouldn’t take initiative to communicate with me, and not keep me updated on his availability. Which is also where I am conflicted, how much of his behavior do I cast off for him being busy/stressed and the other being generally non engaging as a date?
I am primarily leading discussions and messages, he hasn’t asked how I am doing or what I am up to. He will respond in a timely manner when I do text, so he isn’t gone all day and then responding only in the AM or PM. I am also the one asking about his availability and not him telling me what his availability is or isn’t during the week (so if I don’t ask, he won’t tell me otherwise?). I am taking the lead on everything the last 3 weeks, which makes me feel like he isn’t interested in engaging, and expects me to just wait around till he is done these 6 weeks and be okay with little to no engagement or dates?
