It’s June of next year so we really don’t know what the Uber situation will be or if the race will continue. There’s time to figure it out. I thought I was premature in asking for a room block but these things are out of our control.
How long is the warranty, @Kate?
That is a bummer, Kate! I am almost ready to pull the trigger on buying the Dyson once it is in stock. I’ll have to try that Revlon technique.
We just found out there is a charity race on our wedding day so all of the hotels by our venue are booked right now! This race does occur every year that weekend but with COVID it was just not on our radar. We have found an available hotel in the suburbs about 15-20 min away. If you were a guest would you want a shuttle? There are taxis and Uber but those aren’t the best in the suburbs. Getting from the venue back to the hotel would be fine. We were looking forward not having to deal with logistics of transportation but I think we have to. Hard to say how many guests will want to stay the night.
That sounds so nice ktfran!! That sucks about the ice cream bar, Copa.
Yeah, like most wedding things, wedding cakes seem like another thing that costs more because it’s part of a wedding.* I’ve had one really good wedding cake. The others I can’t totally remember. But I’d feel weird without cake! Totally on me.
We are choosing a simple design and no fondant. Just hoping it will taste good. The internet says cakes cost between $3-$10/slice. The $8/slice cakes are very beautiful pieces of art but I can’t stomach (pun intended), paying $800/-$1,000 for cake, personally.
* I feel for all wedding vendors who have had a rough year because of cancellations. Also it does take skill to tier multiple layers of cake.
This talk is really making me want to get the Dyson! I never figured out how to curl my hair. I mean, I was playing around with my mom’s from the 90s so it probably wasn’t the best tool, but it was confusing to curl haha.
I’ve never been the kind of person to get a blow out so it is hard to justify the cost of the Dyson, other than hopefully increased confidence and just a “treat myself” and fun. I mean, the Revlon brush was pricy for me at that time and it was definitely worth it and has held up for 4 years! My straightener, which I used to clean up my hair on day 2 or 3, suddenly died. So I am on the market for some hair tools…
My hair is past my boobs, the longest it’s ever been. Still waiting for our lockdown to end to get a trim. I mean, I want my hair long for the wedding next year but I definitely need a cut before then.
In other wedding stuff, my fiancé and I are doing cake tastings, lol. It’s been fun. Once lockdown ends, I’ll have to start looking for a dress!
@copa, it’s a modern/contemporary venue. We were deciding between that and an estate venue. Very different which made it hard to decide but the one we chose is in the city and close to a hotel so we didn’t have to worry about getting a shuttle. We are having a poutine late night station!
I’m looking forward to my niece being my flower girl!
That’s horrible, @curly. I’m glad your grandmother has you.
I spoke to my pastor recently and she said most of the parishioners above the current age cut off have been vaccinated, which I am really happy about. I offered to help book appointments but it seems they managed or had family. They can be pretty technologically competent as can be seen on zoom calls.
Ontario is going into another “shut down” except it really just seems the same. I of course feel for all business owners. But this half ass lockdown for the last 13 months has been so frustrating and tiring.
My sister noted a milestone of going to her first second wedding where she also went to the first wedding.
@copa, we went with another venue that we liked! I forget if I wrote about this but choosing a venue was probably the first time we’ve ever “disagreed” on something. Thankfully we worked through it like in a healthy relationship ?
I’d say go @MaterialsGirl to see your friend! Well depends on COVID in your area. Ohh that is kind of weird on the registry.
@cleo that’ll be nice for you to come back and see your family. Right now even in “green” zone, max is 50 people for indoors event and 100 people for outdoors. Hopefully that will ease up with the vaccines.
Congrats ver!! Hope she can come home soon.
In also dating adjacent stories, we have booked our wedding for June 2022! Hopefully it’ll be basically a normal wedding then and my overseas family can come. But of course, who knows. We’ve also basically booked all our vendors too because I was a bit nervous with all the postponements that they might get booked up. So now we/I need a break. I am definitely happy I chose my guy. We’ve been planning this wedding jointly. He’s made some good Excel sheets. He’s on all the calls (except hair and makeup and flowers). I wouldn’t want to plan this by myself.
