I sent my boss a text just saying I’m thinking about her, have utmost respect for her, the team has her back, and I appreciate and understand to the best of my ability what she is dealing with. Not sure I would have sent it cold, but she had brought up how upset she is. Our company does make a very big deal out of diversity and inclusion, and our CEO made a good statement and offered resources, but I mean, women of color are still dealing with ridiculous bullshit in any business context.
I had been thinking we could tamp it down by voting, but that was naive.

A lot of people on this site 4 years ago were lecturing about how these Trump voters voted out of economic insecurity. Not racism! Not misogyny! Certainly not fascism or Nazism! They just want to have secure jobs. We should make an effort to relate to them and understand them, as HRC should have done. Do you still believe that?

My boss started out the weekly team (Zoom) meeting asking if everyone is ok, and then she got pretty teary. She’s not African American, but she’s a person of color who decided to become a US citizen years ago, not anticipating this kind of bullshit. She also has two early-20s sons who are angry af and went to the protests the other night and she was worried about them. She told us about how, right after 9/11 she was home alone with her two young kids and the guy from downstairs came up to yell at her for making noise and said disgusting horrible racist things to her. I just… I can’t. Last night I had this strong urge to go get in the middle of a protest and just get killed. I don’t want this anymore. This has ALWAYS been here and it always will be.
All of this shit has always been here, it’s our curse, but he’s really activated and given oxygen to the worst of it, and his weakness and frankly his evil are allowing it to tear the country apart. Encouraging it!

Yes, Snopes says that at least 4 members of the Proud Boys were spotted on the fringes of one of the protests, and there were some other extremists there as well. Definitely people with different agendas are showing up and complicating things, but I’m very confident it’s not an organized conspiracy.

Have you tried one of those waver irons where you press your hair between 3 barrels?? A little like crimping but gives you a nice natural wave.
Yeah I used a crimper a few times. Definitely not right for my hair but that didn’t stop me.
