I think there’s some foreign interference too, stirring things up on social media as has been happening for years. There’s an article on Snopes about it.

But overall, this is not a conspiracy, I don’t think.

Ange, I wouldn’t believe what you see on social media. It’s so full of disinformation and frankly made-up shit. I think it’s possible that white supremacists are showing up to these rallies, but over the past few years we haven’t seen Trump supporters or nazis really show up in large numbers or be organized. Trump called for his base over the weekend to show up at the White House and they didn’t. Again, I don’t discount pockets of bullshit happening, but overall I think this is a lot of people who are incredibly angry for many reasons and want an outlet.

Friend of mine lives in Philly but has moved 5-6 miles out from the center. She says she never thought she’d say this but wishes they had a gun.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Yes, we’ve always had this problem in the US, but the Trump admin is what’s making so many people feel THIS angry and desperate. There’s no justice. Any progress we made in 50 years is wiped out. It’s like we’ve gone back to the 1930s. I asked my dad how this compares to the 60s, and he’s like, it’s getting worse. They had Nixon, the war, and race riots, but we’ve got fucking Trump and a pandemic that disproportionately affects Black people.

    Legit, I love her.

I bet you could do that yourself. You should email him and ask him what he did and what product.

My stylist and I are the same age, and she’s adapted what she does as we get older over the past 19 years. Like she stopped doing layers because my hair isn’t as thick now.

She even came to my wedding in Mexico and did our hair. I want to be in the same nursing home as her when we’re old.

Right! And in the 80s we didn’t have flat irons or know how to blow dry. Everyone just had perms and used curling irons on their bangs, so once I figured out mousse and scrunching, it was ok. But it was hard to get past the point of thinking you could just brush it straight.

    Stick with what you like!

I was born with straight hair and then it went wacky in middle school (hormones), and was pretty upsetting for a while. I like how a skilled stylist + technology can make it the color and texture I had as a kid. It helps my mental health. She without image issues among you can cast the first stone.

I had booked this months ago, and my husband was able to get in at the barber, but my dog has to wait til June 8th!

I got a smoothing treatment called Inca Glow, which is what they use now instead of Keratin because it’s like all natural and made of flowers lol. My hairdresser just blow dried it very quickly straight, and I went home in high humidity, then got up in high humidity and took the dog to the park, and my hair is still frizz-free. It definitely still has wave when wet, and I guess would air-dry wavy, but no frizz. Not cheap but worth it for me in summer. Should last 4 months.

I felt very safe at the salon.

First, I’m happy to say they got the small business loan money, but they didn’t get it the first time they applied, which actually turned out to be a good thing (long story, but the money comes with so many strings attached). Meanwhile, the stylists were able to collect UE, with the extra $600. Then the owners finally got the PPP loan 2 weeks ago when everyone was ready to come back to work. This is a woman-owner biz, a first gen immigrant and a second gen immigrant. One of their husbands fortunately kept money in the business for some reason so they had 6 months of reserves to pay the bills. Thank God! They will totally be okay.

Also, they have 2 locations, and were able to spread everyone out across both, so that the only person you come in any kind of contact with is your stylist. Gloves, masks, face shields, and they change all of that between every client and constantly sanitize everything. I would know, I was there for 6 hours. Bring your own water and something to read, obviously, as they can’t offer you anything to drink or a magazine. Try to not even bring a bag in with you.

Tomorrow I’m getting a cut, highlights, and a smoothing treatment. So excited. My husband went to the barber yesterday. A guy showed up late on a Zoom call today with a nice haircut after looking really floppy and scruffy.

They are taking major precautions. You have to wait outside until called, not bring anything in, they take your temp, they wear plastic ponchos and goggles and face coverings, and I saw they are charging me extra for cleanup between appointments. You have to wash your hands as soon as you come in. They also have all stations at least 6ft apart. I see this when I walk by all the places in my neighborhood. The only way to be safer really would be to cut your own hair until there’s a vaccine, which some people can definitely do, but not me.

Right, that’s what I mean, I wish they could figure out IF you’re immune and for how long.

It would really be nice if someone could figure out the immunity question. Then people could feel safe going back to work or visiting older people. They are a ways away from asking us to come back to the office, but I would not want to take the T. The office itself I would feel pretty okay about, but not the train.
