Yeah she said next time progressive lenses.

But definitely working remotely has done a number on my eyesight. Before, you’d walk around, go to face to face meetings, commute, not be laser focused on a laptop screen for the entire day. I haven’t been wearing glasses at all because I needed them for driving, movies, etc… stuff I don’t really do anymore, and those glasses weren’t right for sitting at a computer. I’m pissed I didn’t realize sooner I needed different glasses to wear for work. Now the doctor says I need to be wearing glasses all the time. Ugh. But at least I have eyes, and a computer.

Turns out the pandemic significantly worsened my distance vision, because of sitting in front of a laptop all day. My vision hasn’t changed in years, and isn’t supposed to, but the eye doctor just told me it’s gotten sig worse since 2019. I now have to get special glasses for working, separate from my regular glasses.

Just a PSA to get your vision checked and have the right prescription for work!

Yikes. My mom worked a corporate job, and I feel like we were always at the mall when I was a kid, so she could try on work clothes at Talbots and Filenes. She would get Clinique and Estée Lauder makeup and skin care at the department stores. So I grew up seeing someone apply moisturizers and makeup and blow dry her hair every morning.

That could be why I’m like this. But she has a lot of interests and hobbies and talents that I don’t have at all, like food and gardening and decorating and sewing and piano, so idk. I just got the genes where you eat a corporate shit sandwich and put on blush every day.

I don’t have sensitive skin, so don’t listen to me, but you could start out with the lowest percentage one that The Ordinary makes, and use it like, every 2-3 days at first, then work up to every night. You use it at night.

Also, in a lot of the videos she talks about whatever shit the celeb was going through, like how the things people have said publicly about Khloe Kardashian probably have made her feel, and how that might have influenced her decisions.

I don’t think she’s problematic in that way. She loves plastic surgery and never says an unkind word about anyone, not even snarky. She’s trying to educate people about the realities of cosmetic rocedures and also about totally unrealistic beauty standards.

Yeah, her face looks VERY smooth / tight and she kind of doesn’t make expressions… her face isn’t as mobile as you’d expect when she speaks.

She says she had 6 rhinoplasties, so her nose is actually botched, although some doctor was able to salvage it.

About body size, we are such a fat phobic society.

I think I come across “young.” It’s a variety of factors. I think I’d like to come across more mature, but not look older. I pretty much know how I’d do that but don’t want to, for some psychological reason. But yeah, at work, I think that can translate into a blazer and big statement glasses. I automatically take people more seriously who have those glasses on, and they hide your eye bags on zoom.

I genuinely enjoy skin care, hair care and fashion trends, and also understand that that’s influenced by a lot of things outside myself.

    I think it’s a lot about blazers.

Another question is, is it important that we look younger than we are, or are we being made to believe it is by the patriarchy / the Beauty industry / influencers? Same thing with regard to having a certain body type.

Agree with all that. I haven’t fact-checked this, but it seems the Golden Girls and the SATC reboot ladies are the same age. Just in different eras, 40 years apart.

And sorry, one more thing: Sleep apnea is obviously going to sap your energy, as does depression, respiratory issues, all that stuff. What I’m trying to say with my question about, so what if you don’t look younger, is really like, give yourself so much credit for just surviving the day to day, and don’t beat yourself up about frickin skin care and looking young. It’s more important to get as much rest as you can, eat decently, and move around as much as you can. If you can also handle skincare, great! If you can’t, that’s okay. Try to wash your face and wear sunscreen but beyond that… not critical.
